Used Waves washing machines in Islamabad & Rawalpindi

Is a used Waves washing machine worth buying?

Waves and Singer sit under one company in Pakistan, so a used Waves washing machine and an older Singer-badged one are served by the same dealer and service network. The laundry range is mechanical — twin tubs, single-tub washers and spin dryers — with no boards to fail, and the parts that keep them running are ordinary shelf stock in both cities.

Made or assembled in Pakistan

Spares are widely stocked locally and most technicians in the twin cities have worked on these, so common faults are usually economic to repair.

Waves washing-machine parts — motors, timers, drain valves, belts and pulsators — are ordinary shelf stock at independent shops in both cities, and are also carried by the company's own service counters. Singer-badged machines are served by the same network, since both brands sit under one business here.

Checking a used Waves washing machine

These are specific to Waves. The general washing machines checks apply too and are on the washing machines page.

Check the maker's plate

Waves and Singer run through the same company here, so an older Singer-badged twin tub is supported by the same counters as a Waves one. Read the manufacturer's name and model number off the rating plate rather than judging the machine by the badge on the front panel.

Ask for the showroom file

Waves sells heavily through its own showrooms on instalment, so many used machines still have a receipt or an instalment file behind them. It names the branch and the date, which is the only reliable way to fix the age of a machine with no electronics and no service log.

Check the motors for rewinds

Waves motors are stocked both at the company's own service counters and at independent shops, so a rewound motor was a shortcut rather than a necessity. Tip the machine and look at the motor label and windings for fresh varnish, new tape or a mismatched plate.

Test the drain valve

Fill the wash tub, open the drain, then check the valve seats fully afterwards instead of weeping. The valve and its linkage are cheap and carried by Waves counters and independent shops alike, so a weeping one is a deduction to price in rather than a reason to walk away.

What Waves washing machines are worth

  • Because Waves and Singer share one network, the used pool competing for the same buyer is wider than the Waves badge alone suggests, and that keeps offers keen at this end of the market.
  • Waves' own showroom chain sells new machines on instalments, so a used one is judged against that alternative rather than against other second-hand machines alone.
  • Paperwork does more for a Waves than for a machine with no showroom trail behind it: the receipt fixes the age, and age is otherwise unprovable on a machine with nothing electronic to date.

General washing machines checks

These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the washing machines page covers them in full.

Spin the empty drum

With the machine off, turn the drum through a full rotation by hand. It should move smoothly and quietly. A rumble, a grinding note or side-to-side play means worn drum bearings, and on most front loaders the tub has to come apart to reach them, which rarely makes sense on a used machine.

Run a cycle with water

Ask for a rinse-and-spin with the machine actually filling. Watch that it takes water at a reasonable rate, drains fully, and reaches full spin without walking across the floor. Slow filling is usually a clogged inlet filter; refusing to spin with a wet load is often a worn belt, coupler or motor.

Fold back the door seal

On a front loader, peel the rubber boot back all the way round. Black mould in the folds is cleanable. Tears, splits or a seal that has been patched with adhesive are not, and a compromised boot leaks onto the floor at every wash.

Test the spinner separately

On a semi-automatic, the spin tub has its own motor and a lid interlock. Load it with a wet cloth and run it. Heavy vibration, a screech at start-up, or a spinner that keeps turning with the lid open are all faults, and the last one is a safety problem rather than an inconvenience.

Open the pump filter

Undo the filter at the front and look at what comes out. Grit and hair are normal. A cracked filter housing, or a drain hose with a taped repair, tells you the machine has been leaking, and water stains under the base panel are worth more than any verbal assurance.

Step through the programmes

Select each programme and confirm the machine changes what it actually does, not just what the display shows. An error code that clears when the machine is unplugged and returns mid-cycle points at the control board, which is the second expensive repair after bearings.

Waves washing machines — questions

Is a Singer washing machine the same as a Waves one in Pakistan?

Not the same machine, but the same company: Waves and Singer sit under one business here, so both badges are served by the same dealers, service counters and parts supply. Second-hand, that means an older Singer-badged twin tub is not orphaned — check the rating plate for the manufacturer and model number, then price it on condition like any Waves.

What should I check on a used Waves twin tub?

Start underneath: tip it and look at the wash and spin motors for signs of a rewind — fresh varnish, new tape or a mismatched label — since Waves motors are stocked locally and a rewind was a shortcut. Then fill the wash tub, open the drain and confirm the valve seats fully instead of weeping. Finally ask for the showroom receipt.
