Used LG washing machines in Islamabad & Rawalpindi
Is a used LG washing machine worth buying?
LG's automatics are built around the inverter direct drive motor, bolted straight to the drum with no belt or pulley — quieter, fewer wear parts, and a layout technicians here recognise. Its twin tubs carry WP codes and are now old machines kept going on generic parts. Either way, LG appliance support in both cities runs mainly through independent importers and technicians.
Mixed — partly assembled locally
Parts availability depends on the model line: locally assembled ranges are straightforward, imported ones less so. Worth confirming before you count on a repair.
LG washing-machine parts in Islamabad and Rawalpindi come largely through independent importers and specialist workshops. Direct drive rotors, stators, hall sensors and boards are order items with real lead times; pumps, inlet valves, hoses and lid switches are commonly available, and WP twin-tub parts are met with aftermarket equivalents.

Checking a used LG washing machine
These are specific to LG. The general washing machines checks apply too and are on the washing machines page.
Confirm direct drive
Take the rear panel off, or look through the vents: a direct drive machine has the rotor bolted to the drum shaft and no belt. It matters because the wear parts, the failure modes and the cost of a drive repair are entirely different from a belt-driven machine of the same size and age.
Ask about LE codes
LG's codes are lettered — IE for water not arriving, OE for a drain fault, UE for an unbalanced load, LE for a locked motor. LE is the one that matters on a direct drive machine, because it points at the rotor, the hall sensor or something jamming the drum rather than at a cheap part.
Listen at spin start-up
Start a spin from a standstill and listen as the drum first changes direction, then picks up speed. A knock at those moments on a direct drive machine can be the rotor bolt and shaft splines rather than the bearing; either way the motor has to come off and the parts are imported.
Watch the drum patterns
LG's 6 Motion direct drive varies how the drum turns through a wash — tumbling, rocking, reversing. A few minutes of a real cycle shows that the same motor control which runs the spin is behaving; a drum that only ever turns one way at one speed is worth asking about.
Treat WP parts as generic
LG's WP twin tubs are old enough that the timers, valves and belts keeping them running are aftermarket rather than LG items. Check that whatever is fitted actually works now, rather than planning to match an original later, because matching one is unlikely.
What LG washing machines are worth
- Direct drive supports value on a machine that spins cleanly, since there is no belt or pulley to wear; the same feature pulls value down hard once the motor end is suspect, because rotor, stator and hall sensor are imported to order and the motor must come off to fit them.
- WP twin tubs now trade on their motors and body alone, because the parts keeping them alive are aftermarket rather than LG, so the badge adds little at that end and condition decides the offer.
- Since LG appliance work here sits mostly with independent technicians, used buyers tend to be people who already know one — a narrower, sharper-questioning pool, so a machine demonstrated on a real cycle sells better than one described in words.

General washing machines checks
These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the washing machines page covers them in full.
Spin the empty drum
With the machine off, turn the drum through a full rotation by hand. It should move smoothly and quietly. A rumble, a grinding note or side-to-side play means worn drum bearings, and on most front loaders the tub has to come apart to reach them, which rarely makes sense on a used machine.
Run a cycle with water
Ask for a rinse-and-spin with the machine actually filling. Watch that it takes water at a reasonable rate, drains fully, and reaches full spin without walking across the floor. Slow filling is usually a clogged inlet filter; refusing to spin with a wet load is often a worn belt, coupler or motor.
Fold back the door seal
On a front loader, peel the rubber boot back all the way round. Black mould in the folds is cleanable. Tears, splits or a seal that has been patched with adhesive are not, and a compromised boot leaks onto the floor at every wash.
Test the spinner separately
On a semi-automatic, the spin tub has its own motor and a lid interlock. Load it with a wet cloth and run it. Heavy vibration, a screech at start-up, or a spinner that keeps turning with the lid open are all faults, and the last one is a safety problem rather than an inconvenience.
Open the pump filter
Undo the filter at the front and look at what comes out. Grit and hair are normal. A cracked filter housing, or a drain hose with a taped repair, tells you the machine has been leaking, and water stains under the base panel are worth more than any verbal assurance.
Step through the programmes
Select each programme and confirm the machine changes what it actually does, not just what the display shows. An error code that clears when the machine is unplugged and returns mid-cycle points at the control board, which is the second expensive repair after bearings.
