Used PEL shop & restaurant equipment in Islamabad & Rawalpindi
Is a used PEL shop & restaurant equipment worth buying?
PEL is Pak Elektron of Lahore, a company that builds transformers and switchgear for the power utilities alongside its appliances, and it sells shop refrigeration and household refrigeration through the same dealers. That is the first thing a used buyer has to untangle: whether the cabinet in front of you was specified for shop duty, or is a domestic model that has been doing it anyway.
Made or assembled in Pakistan
Spares are widely stocked locally and most technicians in the twin cities have worked on these, so common faults are usually economic to repair.
PEL manufactures in Lahore and sells through a long-established appliance dealer network in both cities, so thermostats, relays, fan motors, gaskets and door furniture are ordinary orders at a general appliance counter rather than a commercial refrigeration supplier. Inverter control boards and model-specific glass, shelves and baskets are ordered against the model code.

Checking a used PEL shop & restaurant equipment
These are specific to PEL. The general shop & restaurant equipment checks apply too and are on the shop & restaurant equipment page.
Tell shop model from domestic
PEL sells household and shop-duty refrigeration through the same dealers, so a PEL freezer standing in a shop is not necessarily a commercial cabinet. Look for a lid lock and keys, castors and the model code on the plate before assuming it was built for the door traffic it has had.
Look for inverter badging
PEL badges its inverter models prominently — InverterOn on the air conditioners — and its inverter refrigeration works the same way: a variable-speed compressor run by a control board. A board fault is diagnosed and ordered against the model, which is a different proposition from changing a relay.
Ask for the warranty card
PEL sells its refrigeration with compressor cover measured in years and running from the invoice date, so a used cabinet may still have some left. Without the card and the invoice, the age on the plate is all anyone has to go on.
Check for a changed compressor
Look at the compressor for fresh brazing, a mismatched label or fresh paint on an otherwise dusty unit. A substitute is rarely matched to the cabinet, so pull-down and running time change, and fitting one outside the dealer network normally ends whatever cover was left.
What PEL shop & restaurant equipment are worth
- PEL's appliance dealer network in Islamabad and Rawalpindi is broad enough that a used cabinet can be quoted at an ordinary appliance counter rather than a specialist refrigeration supplier, and that reach is what supports resale.
- A PEL cabinet that can be shown to be the shop-duty model rather than the household one sells more easily, because the next buyer is not guessing what the hinges, gasket and fan were rated for.
- Inverter models turn on the board: a healthy control board carries the value, and a board fault is priced against a model-specific order rather than a counter part.
- Remaining compressor cover only counts if the invoice and card travel with the cabinet, since a dealer cannot act on the plate alone.

General shop & restaurant equipment checks
These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the shop & restaurant equipment page covers them in full.
Watch the chiller cycle off
A bottle cooler or display chiller that has been running for an hour should reach its set temperature and then switch the compressor off for a spell. A compressor that never stops is fighting low gas, a blocked condenser or a dead thermostat, and you can hear the difference from across the shop.
Test door seals with paper
Close the door on a slip of paper and pull it out. If it slides free with no drag, the magnetic gasket has hardened and warm air is being drawn in all day. Gaskets can be replaced, but a perished one usually comes with ice built up on the evaporator and a compressor that has been overworking for months.
Try a magnet on steelwork
Much prep furniture here is fabricated locally, so the sheet grade matters more than any badge. A fridge magnet grips thin 430-grade sheet firmly and barely holds on 304, which resists pitting far better around sinks and salt. Then look underneath at the legs, where mopping water rusts a table from the floor upwards.
Light every burner
On a commercial range, griddle or tandoor, each burner should light from its pilot or neighbour and hold a steady blue flame with no yellow tips. Lazy yellow flames and soot on the pan bottoms point at blocked jets, or jets sized for a different gas pressure. Check that the control valves turn smoothly rather than grinding.
Check the extraction canopy
Pull the baffle filters out and see that they are all there and can still be washed rather than being clogged solid with hardened grease. Switch the fan on and hold a tissue flat against the filter opening; the draw should hold it in place. Missing filters, a fan that hums without pulling, or grease weeping back out of the ductwork mean a fire risk and a deep clean before the kitchen can open.
Run the mixer through speeds
A spiral or planetary mixer should change speed without a knock from the gearbox and should not walk across the floor on its feet. On a fryer, check that the element and thermostat probe lift clear for cleaning, and that baskets, lid and drain tap are all present, since they are model specific and awkward to source separately.
