Used Canon shop & restaurant equipment in Islamabad & Rawalpindi

Is a used Canon shop & restaurant equipment worth buying?

Canon here is a Pakistani gas-appliance brand — hobs, cooking ranges, ovens, hoods and geysers — and not the Japanese camera and printer company. That collision is not trivia: it means you cannot look this appliance up. Manuals, model numbers and part listings all disappear under camera results, so a used Canon is bought by inspecting the thing itself and by measuring.

Made or assembled in Pakistan

Spares are widely stocked locally and most technicians in the twin cities have worked on these, so common faults are usually economic to repair.

Burners, crowns, caps, electrodes, taps and thermocouples for locally made gas hobs and ranges are stocked across the hardware and gas-appliance market in both cities, and they are sold by size and physical match rather than by part number — which is just as well, since the Canon name cannot be searched usefully. Glass tops and oven doors are the exception: matched by dimension, and often no longer made for older models.

Checking a used Canon shop & restaurant equipment

These are specific to Canon. The general shop & restaurant equipment checks apply too and are on the shop & restaurant equipment page.

Read the maker's plate

The local hob and range market carries many similar-looking badges, and this one is shared with a camera company, so the appliance's own plate is the only reliable statement of who built it. Read the maker, the address, the gas type it was jetted for and the model code off the plate itself.

Buy parts by match

Because the name returns camera results, ordering a Canon part by model number is largely futile. Take the burner crown, cap, electrode or tap to the market and match it by size and thread, which is how these parts are sold anyway.

Measure the glass panel

A replacement top for a glass hob is matched by dimension rather than by model, so record the overall panel size, the burner cut-out centres and where the gas inlet sits. Without those measurements nobody can tell you whether a panel exists for it.

Match your worktop aperture

A used built-in hob is only a cheap fix if it drops into the hole already cut in the counter. Measure your aperture first and take the figures with you, because re-cutting a worktop to suit a second-hand hob is joinery, not a fitting job.

What Canon shop & restaurant equipment are worth

  • Because nothing about the appliance can be researched, value is set by what can be inspected on the spot: a complete set of burner crowns and caps, ignition firing on every ring, and unchipped glass.
  • Small missing parts cost more than they should, since a replacement has to be matched by hand at the market rather than ordered against a model number.
  • The glass top decides value on a hob, because the panel is matched by dimension, older sizes stop appearing, and a cracked top can be worth more to put right than the rest of the appliance.
  • A hob in a common size sells faster than an odd one, because the buyer can use the counter aperture they already have.

General shop & restaurant equipment checks

These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the shop & restaurant equipment page covers them in full.

Watch the chiller cycle off

A bottle cooler or display chiller that has been running for an hour should reach its set temperature and then switch the compressor off for a spell. A compressor that never stops is fighting low gas, a blocked condenser or a dead thermostat, and you can hear the difference from across the shop.

Test door seals with paper

Close the door on a slip of paper and pull it out. If it slides free with no drag, the magnetic gasket has hardened and warm air is being drawn in all day. Gaskets can be replaced, but a perished one usually comes with ice built up on the evaporator and a compressor that has been overworking for months.

Try a magnet on steelwork

Much prep furniture here is fabricated locally, so the sheet grade matters more than any badge. A fridge magnet grips thin 430-grade sheet firmly and barely holds on 304, which resists pitting far better around sinks and salt. Then look underneath at the legs, where mopping water rusts a table from the floor upwards.

Light every burner

On a commercial range, griddle or tandoor, each burner should light from its pilot or neighbour and hold a steady blue flame with no yellow tips. Lazy yellow flames and soot on the pan bottoms point at blocked jets, or jets sized for a different gas pressure. Check that the control valves turn smoothly rather than grinding.

Check the extraction canopy

Pull the baffle filters out and see that they are all there and can still be washed rather than being clogged solid with hardened grease. Switch the fan on and hold a tissue flat against the filter opening; the draw should hold it in place. Missing filters, a fan that hums without pulling, or grease weeping back out of the ductwork mean a fire risk and a deep clean before the kitchen can open.

Run the mixer through speeds

A spiral or planetary mixer should change speed without a knock from the gearbox and should not walk across the floor on its feet. On a fryer, check that the element and thermostat probe lift clear for cleaning, and that baskets, lid and drain tap are all present, since they are model specific and awkward to source separately.

Canon shop & restaurant equipment — questions

Is the Canon on this hob the camera company?

No. Canon here is a Pakistani gas-appliance brand making hobs, cooking ranges, ovens, hoods and geysers, and it has nothing to do with the Japanese camera and printer maker. The overlap matters when you go looking for a manual or a spare: search results return cameras, so read the appliance's own plate for the maker and model, and buy parts by physical match.

How do I find parts for a Canon hob with no model number?

Take the part with you. Burner crowns, caps, electrodes, taps and thermocouples for local hobs are sold by size and thread rather than by part number, so a physical match at the gas-appliance market is quicker than any search. For a glass top, take measurements instead: overall panel size, burner cut-out centres and the gas inlet position.
