Used Orient water dispensers & coolers in Islamabad & Rawalpindi

Is a used Orient water dispensers & cooler worth buying?

Orient's dispensers are furniture as much as appliances, and the ones you meet second-hand are usually the glass-door cabinet models that stood in somebody's lounge. The refrigeration in them is ordinary, so grade the cabinet: the door glass, its hinges, the interior lamp and the moulded top deck are what separate a good one from a tired one.

Made or assembled in Pakistan

Spares are widely stocked locally and most technicians in the twin cities have worked on these, so common faults are usually economic to repair.

Orient's mechanical spares — taps, valves, thermostats, door switches and lamps — come through its dealers in both cities, and the sealed system is standard work for any independent fridge technician. Cabinet door glass, hinges, shelves and the moulded top deck are matched to the model and have to be ordered against it.

Checking a used Orient water dispensers & cooler

These are specific to Orient. The general water dispensers & coolers checks apply too and are on the water dispensers & coolers page.

Sight along the door glass

Toughened cabinet doors fail from edge chips, and the edges are what get knocked whenever the unit is shifted. Look along the rim in raking light rather than at the face; a chipped door is a matched part ordered through a dealer, not something that can be tidied up.

Lift the open door

Take the weight of the open door and lift it gently. Play at the hinge pins means the door sits low and the seal misses along the top edge, which is why the compartment stops holding temperature long before the compressor is at fault.

Switch the cabinet lamp on

If the lamp stays lit with the door shut, the door switch has stuck and the lamp has been quietly heating the compartment it is meant to light. That is a common reason a cabinet never gets properly cold while the refrigeration itself is fine.

Inspect the moulded top deck

The plastic deck takes the weight and the twist of every nineteen-litre bottle change. Cracks radiate out from the bottle seat and let water into the cabinet top; the deck is a matched moulding, and a cracked one is usually hidden under the bottle.

Ask where it stood

These cabinets shed their heat at the back. A unit that lived pushed tight into an alcove shows a dust mat and heat-marked paint on the rear panel, and it has been running hot for years, which is what shortens a compressor.

What Orient water dispensers & coolers are worth

  • Cosmetic damage costs more on the glass-door models than on plain ones, because the door is the feature being bought and it is matched to the body.
  • Hinge and seal wear reads to most buyers as a refrigeration fault, so a door that has dropped drags the price down further than the repair itself deserves.
  • A cracked top deck caps the grade regardless of how well the unit runs, since water reaching the cabinet top is what eventually takes out the electrics.
  • Local manufacture keeps the mechanical side inexpensive to put right, which is precisely why the remaining value sits in the parts that are moulded rather than mechanical.

General water dispensers & coolers checks

These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the water dispensers & coolers page covers them in full.

Check how it cools

A compressor dispenser cools the way a fridge does and will bring water to a properly cold drinking temperature; a thermoelectric one uses a solid-state plate and only takes the edge off. Look behind the cabinet for a small black cylinder and warm coils, then fill the tanks, switch the cold side on and come back after twenty minutes. Merely cool water after that long means lost gas or a failed plate.

Test the hot tank

With water in the tanks, switch the hot side on and wait around ten minutes; the indicator should cycle and the red tap should give water hot enough to steam. Nothing at all usually means a burnt element or a tripped cut-out, and a tank thick with scale gives a slow, spitting flow.

Look for crust and rust

Pull the drip tray and look underneath and at the rear panel below the taps. A white mineral bloom, rust streaks or a stained cabinet floor means a slow weep that has been running a while. On most dispensers the cold tank is foamed into the cabinet, so a seam leak means stripping the machine rather than tightening a joint.

Work every tap

Press each tap fully and release it. A tap that keeps dripping after release has a perished washer, which is cheap to put right but tells you how much use the unit has had. Check the tap bodies and levers for cracks, and on push-button models make sure the button springs back rather than sticking in.

Open the bottle seat

Inspect the seat and probe the bottle sits on for cracks and for a hardened, dirty seal, since that is where most contamination gets in. Open the storage or refrigerated compartment door, work the hinge and check the gasket; on a compressor model a compartment that never gets cold points at a blockage in the cooling circuit rather than a door problem.

Look inside a deck cooler

On a steel electric cooler, lift the lid and look at the coil and tank walls. Water in both cities is hard, and heavy scale on the coil slows cooling badly, though it can be scrubbed off. Rust blooming along the base seam of the outer cabinet is more serious than surface rust on the side panels, because the base is what carries the weight of a full tank.

Orient water dispensers & coolers — questions

Is an Orient dispenser with a glass-door cabinet worth buying used?

Yes, if the cabinet itself is sound. Check the door glass edges for chips, lift the open door to feel for hinge play, and see whether the lamp goes out when the door shuts — a stuck switch heats the very compartment it lights. Glass, hinges and shelves are matched to the model and ordered through a dealer, so damage there is a permanent deduction.

Why does the cabinet on my Orient dispenser not get cold?

Work through it in order. A lamp that stays on with the door closed is heating the space; a door dropped on worn hinge pins leaves the seal missing along the top; a unit standing tight against a wall cannot shed heat from its rear panel. Only when all three are ruled out is it worth calling a technician about gas.
