Used Korg books, music & hobbies in Islamabad & Rawalpindi
Is a used Korg books, music & hobbie worth buying?
Korg's Pa arrangers are the reason this brand moves here: the Oriental editions carry the quarter-tone scales and eastern sound sets that wedding and mehfil players want, so used units circulate among working musicians rather than hobbyists. Everything arrives imported. What you are really buying is the model, the OS version, and whatever style set has been loaded onto it.
Imported
Parts usually have to be imported or sourced from the grey market, so a repair takes longer and costs more — which matters more on an older unit than the build quality does.
Korg is imported with no wide service network in Islamabad or Rawalpindi, so joysticks, key contacts and display parts are ordered in. Board-level repairs are handled by independent instrument technicians rather than an authorised centre.
Checking a used Korg books, music & hobbie
These are specific to Korg. The general books, music & hobbies checks apply too and are on the books, music & hobbies page.
Read the OS version
Pa arrangers show their operating system version at start-up or in the menu. It tells you whether the unit has been updated and which style formats it will load.
Test the joystick centre
The pitch and modulation joystick is the control that wears first on Korg boards. It should return to centre cleanly, with no residual pitch shift left in the sound.
Ask what styles are loaded
Much of a used Pa's local appeal is the eastern or subcontinental style set loaded onto it. Confirm whether it is factory or third-party, and whether a backup of it exists anywhere.
Save to internal storage
Save a file to internal memory and to a USB stick in front of the seller. A failed internal drive on older Pa models is not a quick repair in either city.
Play every key
Run the full span at soft velocity and listen through the internal speakers as well as headphones, since blown speakers and dead key contacts are separate faults that mask each other.
What Korg books, music & hobbies are worth
- Oriental and eastern-scale editions hold value better here than standard ones, because the local repertoire needs those scales and there is no substitute instrument made locally.
- Older Pa models lose value once their style format stops matching what current sets are distributed in, since the loaded content is much of what the buyer wants.
- Working-musician demand means the condition of keys, joystick and speakers weighs on the offer far more than marks on the casing.

General books, music & hobbies checks
These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the books, music & hobbies page covers them in full.
Check the edition page
On a textbook or exam preparation set, the edition is most of the value. Read the copyright page for the edition number and printing year, and check whether an online access code or disc that came with the book has already been redeemed, because a used code cannot be passed on.
Open the book flat
Hold it open at the middle and look along the spine. Glued paperbacks crack and start shedding pages in blocks. Fan the pages for loose sections, highlighter running through the whole text, silverfish holes, and the wavy edges that mean the book has been wet at some point.
Smell a stored box
Books kept in a damp store room or under a leaking roof smell musty, and the smell does not leave. Look at the closed page edges for the brown speckling of foxing and for grey-green mould. If one book in a box has it, treat the whole box as a single problem.
Hold discs to the light
Tilt a CD or DVD against a lamp and look for pin-holes or a bronze tinge creeping in from the edge, which means the reflective layer is lifting and the disc is finished. Concentric scratches read worse than radial ones. On cassettes, check the tape is wound evenly and not crinkled.
Count every game piece
Work through a board game or model kit against its piece list and rules sheet before agreeing anything. One missing pawn, die or rules leaflet turns a boxed game into a parts box when the title is out of production. Check the box corners, which is where storage damage shows first.
Run the motors and servos
On remote-control models, drones and motorised telescope mounts, fit a known-good battery and work every control: the motor should spin up without grinding or stalling, servos should answer at once and return to centre, and a mount should track smoothly rather than stepping. Refuse any pack that is swollen or leaking, and check the charger and connectors are present and matching.
