Used & new Books, Music & Hobbies for sale in Islamabad & Rawalpindi

Where can I buy used books, music & hobbies in Islamabad?

A checked lot in this category is graded New, Like New, Good Used, or For Parts / Repair, which for books and hobby kit usually means a reading copy or a box of spares. Completeness counts as much as condition. A game without its rules sheet, a boxed set missing a volume, or a telescope without its eyepieces is a different item from the complete one.

What to check before buying a used books, music & hobbies

These are the checks that set the condition grade on anything we list — and the ones worth running yourself wherever you buy.

Check the edition page

On a textbook or exam preparation set, the edition is most of the value. Read the copyright page for the edition number and printing year, and check whether an online access code or disc that came with the book has already been redeemed, because a used code cannot be passed on.

Open the book flat

Hold it open at the middle and look along the spine. Glued paperbacks crack and start shedding pages in blocks. Fan the pages for loose sections, highlighter running through the whole text, silverfish holes, and the wavy edges that mean the book has been wet at some point.

Smell a stored box

Books kept in a damp store room or under a leaking roof smell musty, and the smell does not leave. Look at the closed page edges for the brown speckling of foxing and for grey-green mould. If one book in a box has it, treat the whole box as a single problem.

Hold discs to the light

Tilt a CD or DVD against a lamp and look for pin-holes or a bronze tinge creeping in from the edge, which means the reflective layer is lifting and the disc is finished. Concentric scratches read worse than radial ones. On cassettes, check the tape is wound evenly and not crinkled.

Count every game piece

Work through a board game or model kit against its piece list and rules sheet before agreeing anything. One missing pawn, die or rules leaflet turns a boxed game into a parts box when the title is out of production. Check the box corners, which is where storage damage shows first.

Run the motors and servos

On remote-control models, drones and motorised telescope mounts, fit a known-good battery and work every control: the motor should spin up without grinding or stalling, servos should answer at once and return to centre, and a mount should track smoothly rather than stepping. Refuse any pack that is swollen or leaking, and check the charger and connectors are present and matching.

Brands we see most

These are the books, music & hobbies brands that come up most often in the Islamabad and Rawalpindi second-hand market. We trade others too — this is what typically turns up, not a list of what is in stock today.

Buying used books, music & hobbies — frequently asked questions

Are textbooks worth anything after the syllabus changes?

For the exam market the edition is the thing being bought, so a superseded book stops working as a study text. It still sells as general reading, and some subjects move slowly enough that an older edition stays usable. Check the copyright page for the edition and printing year, and find out whether any access code supplied with the book has already been redeemed, because a used code cannot be passed on.

Do CDs, cassettes and DVDs still sell?

They sell where players for the format are still in everyday use, and where the media is complete: the right disc in the right case, with its sleeve and booklet. A box of loose, unsleeved discs is a different proposition from a shelf of intact cases. DVDs also carry region coding, so check that a disc bought abroad plays on an ordinary local player before counting on it.

Is an old book worth more than a newer one?

Age on its own does not add value. What does is demand for that particular title and a text block still sound: a tight binding, no loose sections, complete plates or maps, and a dust jacket on a hardback. A title printed in very large numbers stays common however old it gets, while a scarce one in poor condition is still only a reading copy.
