Used Ibanez books, music & hobbies in Islamabad & Rawalpindi

Is a used Ibanez books, music & hobbie worth buying?

Ibanez sells here to rock and metal players, and the thin fast neck and double-locking tremolo are what they come for. That tremolo is also what makes a used one risky: a floating bridge set up badly, or missing its locking nut blocks and springs, plays poorly and needs parts that are imported. Instruments on the market range from the entry GIO line to the RG series.

Imported

Parts usually have to be imported or sourced from the grey market, so a repair takes longer and costs more — which matters more on an older unit than the build quality does.

Ibanez is imported and its tremolo hardware is model-specific, so saddles, nut blocks and springs come from abroad. Ordinary work such as fretwork, setup and pickup swaps is handled by guitar technicians in both cities.

Checking a used Ibanez books, music & hobbie

These are specific to Ibanez. The general books, music & hobbies checks apply too and are on the books, music & hobbies page.

Look at bridge angle

A floating Ibanez tremolo should sit parallel with the body. A bridge tilting forward or sunk into its cavity means the springs and string gauge are mismatched, and setting it right is fiddly work.

Count the locking nut parts

Each locking nut needs its clamping blocks and screws, and the bridge needs its saddle blocks. These are small imported pieces, easily lost and hard to buy singly here.

Check the knife edges

Lift the strings and inspect where the bridge pivots on its posts. Worn or dented knife edges stop the bridge returning to pitch and cannot be repaired, only replaced.

Distinguish GIO from RG

The GIO line is the entry range and uses different hardware and pickups from the RG series even where the body shapes look alike. Read the model number on the rear of the headstock.

Check truss rod movement

Thin Wizard-type necks leave little material for adjustment. Ask whether the truss rod still turns in both directions before assuming a bowed neck can be brought back.

What Ibanez books, music & hobbies are worth

  • A working tremolo carries the value: the same guitar with a blocked or incomplete floating bridge is worth less, because the missing pieces are imported and model-specific.
  • The GIO entry line and the RG line hold value differently despite similar looks, since hardware and pickups differ and buyers here know the model codes.
  • Necks that have gone forward under local humidity limit value, as a thin neck has little material left for a truss rod to pull straight.

General books, music & hobbies checks

These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the books, music & hobbies page covers them in full.

Check the edition page

On a textbook or exam preparation set, the edition is most of the value. Read the copyright page for the edition number and printing year, and check whether an online access code or disc that came with the book has already been redeemed, because a used code cannot be passed on.

Open the book flat

Hold it open at the middle and look along the spine. Glued paperbacks crack and start shedding pages in blocks. Fan the pages for loose sections, highlighter running through the whole text, silverfish holes, and the wavy edges that mean the book has been wet at some point.

Smell a stored box

Books kept in a damp store room or under a leaking roof smell musty, and the smell does not leave. Look at the closed page edges for the brown speckling of foxing and for grey-green mould. If one book in a box has it, treat the whole box as a single problem.

Hold discs to the light

Tilt a CD or DVD against a lamp and look for pin-holes or a bronze tinge creeping in from the edge, which means the reflective layer is lifting and the disc is finished. Concentric scratches read worse than radial ones. On cassettes, check the tape is wound evenly and not crinkled.

Count every game piece

Work through a board game or model kit against its piece list and rules sheet before agreeing anything. One missing pawn, die or rules leaflet turns a boxed game into a parts box when the title is out of production. Check the box corners, which is where storage damage shows first.

Run the motors and servos

On remote-control models, drones and motorised telescope mounts, fit a known-good battery and work every control: the motor should spin up without grinding or stalling, servos should answer at once and return to centre, and a mount should track smoothly rather than stepping. Refuse any pack that is swollen or leaking, and check the charger and connectors are present and matching.

Ibanez books, music & hobbies — questions

Should I buy a used Ibanez with a floating tremolo?

Only after checking it properly. A floating bridge should sit level with the body, return to pitch after a dive, and have all its locking nut blocks, screws and saddle blocks present. Those small parts are imported and hard to buy singly here. If the bridge is sunk, tilted or incomplete, treat the setup work and missing parts as part of the price.

What is the difference between an Ibanez GIO and an RG?

GIO is the entry range and RG is the main line. Although the body shapes look similar, the hardware, pickups and bridges differ, and buyers here price the two separately. Read the model number on the rear of the headstock rather than judging by shape. A GIO offered at RG money is the most common mistake in used Ibanez listings.
