Used Casio books, music & hobbies in Islamabad & Rawalpindi
Is a used Casio books, music & hobbie worth buying?
Casio sits at the beginner end of this market, so most used examples are a CTK or LK keyboard bought for a child's lessons and set aside within a year: light hours, but often with the adaptor or stand long gone. At the other end, Privia digital pianos come up from players moving on. Casio's scientific calculators trade in the same student market.
Imported
Parts usually have to be imported or sourced from the grey market, so a repair takes longer and costs more — which matters more on an older unit than the build quality does.
Casio instruments are imported, so key contacts, LED boards and jacks are ordered in rather than held on a shelf. Most used Casios are repaired by general electronics technicians in both cities, and the economics only work on the higher models.
Checking a used Casio books, music & hobbie
These are specific to Casio. The general books, music & hobbies checks apply too and are on the books, music & hobbies page.
Match the adaptor rating
Casio boards print their required supply on the rear panel and models differ, some expecting 9.5V and others 12V. A wrongly rated generic adaptor is a common reason a used Casio appears dead.
Test the lighted keys
On LK models the key lighting is the whole selling point, and a block of unlit keys usually means a failed LED section rather than a key fault. Step through lesson mode and watch the full span.
Press every Privia key slowly
Privia hammer actions develop uneven or clicking keys under heavy use. Depress keys one at a time, slowly, so you hear the mechanism rather than the sound.
Check the calculator is genuine
Counterfeit fx-991 units circulate widely in student markets here. Look at the print quality on the keys and casing, the model and origin text on the back, and whether the display segments are crisp.
Open the battery compartment
Battery-powered Casio portables are often stored with cells left inside. Corroded terminals in the battery bay are the usual reason a used board will not run without mains power.
What Casio books, music & hobbies are worth
- Casio's strength at the entry level cuts both ways: because new starter boards are widely stocked, used CTK and SA models compete with new ones and hold value less well than professional instruments.
- Privia and other hammer-action Casios hold value better than the portable range, since the action is the part a buyer cannot replace later.
- A board with its original adaptor is worth more than the same board without, because Casio supply voltages differ by model and a replacement must be matched to the panel.
- Lighted-key models lose value quickly once an LED section fails, as that feature is the reason they were bought.

General books, music & hobbies checks
These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the books, music & hobbies page covers them in full.
Check the edition page
On a textbook or exam preparation set, the edition is most of the value. Read the copyright page for the edition number and printing year, and check whether an online access code or disc that came with the book has already been redeemed, because a used code cannot be passed on.
Open the book flat
Hold it open at the middle and look along the spine. Glued paperbacks crack and start shedding pages in blocks. Fan the pages for loose sections, highlighter running through the whole text, silverfish holes, and the wavy edges that mean the book has been wet at some point.
Smell a stored box
Books kept in a damp store room or under a leaking roof smell musty, and the smell does not leave. Look at the closed page edges for the brown speckling of foxing and for grey-green mould. If one book in a box has it, treat the whole box as a single problem.
Hold discs to the light
Tilt a CD or DVD against a lamp and look for pin-holes or a bronze tinge creeping in from the edge, which means the reflective layer is lifting and the disc is finished. Concentric scratches read worse than radial ones. On cassettes, check the tape is wound evenly and not crinkled.
Count every game piece
Work through a board game or model kit against its piece list and rules sheet before agreeing anything. One missing pawn, die or rules leaflet turns a boxed game into a parts box when the title is out of production. Check the box corners, which is where storage damage shows first.
Run the motors and servos
On remote-control models, drones and motorised telescope mounts, fit a known-good battery and work every control: the motor should spin up without grinding or stalling, servos should answer at once and return to centre, and a mount should track smoothly rather than stepping. Refuse any pack that is swollen or leaking, and check the charger and connectors are present and matching.
