Used Road Prince bikes, scooters & e-bikes in Islamabad & Rawalpindi

Is a used Road Prince bikes, scooters & e-bike worth buying?

Road Prince's badge covers two different propositions. The RP 70 Passion is a standard commuter that any workshop and any parts counter in Rawalpindi can serve. The RP 110, the Wego 150 and the Zongshen-derived RX3 250 are larger machines whose parts route runs through Road Prince's own dealers rather than the general market, so which model you are looking at decides everything else.

Made or assembled in Pakistan

Spares are widely stocked locally and most technicians in the twin cities have worked on these, so common faults are usually economic to repair.

Road Prince builds locally, and its 70-class consumables sit in the ordinary pattern-parts market in both cities. Anything specific to the RP 110 and upwards — panels, decals, and the cooling and brake parts on the RX3 — is a dealer order and a wait rather than a counter purchase.

Checking a used Road Prince bikes, scooters & e-bike

These are specific to Road Prince. The general bikes, scooters & e-bikes checks apply too and are on the bikes, scooters & e-bikes page.

Take the old chain

An RP 70 Passion and an RP 125 Euro II do not run the same chain, and the Wego 150 and RX3 250 differ again. Take the worn chain and a sprocket to the counter rather than asking for a commuter set.

Listen to the starter

On the self-start variants, a starter that spins and whirrs without turning the engine is the one-way clutch behind the flywheel slipping, not a flat battery. It is a cover-off job and the part comes from a dealer rather than a general counter.

Press the panel mounts

The Wego 150 carries moulded plastic panels rather than the steel of a commuter. Check the mounting tabs behind each one — a panel held on by a bolt through a cracked lug has already been broken, and the replacement is a dealer order.

Check the RX3's coolant

The RX3 250 is liquid-cooled, which almost nothing else at this end of the market is. Look at the coolant in the expansion bottle, check the radiator fins are not flattened, and let it idle until the fan cuts in; plain water or a brown, oily coolant means it has been left alone.

What Road Prince bikes, scooters & e-bikes are worth

  • The RP 70 keeps its value the way any pattern-parts commuter does: nothing routine on it is difficult, so a fault is a repair rather than the end of the bike.
  • The larger models depend on the dealer network being reachable, so an RP 110, Wego 150 or RX3 with a documented dealer history assesses better than an identical one without.
  • Broken plastics pull the styled models down harder than mechanical wear does, because panels are ordered by model rather than bought over a counter.
  • Liquid cooling gives the RX3 a service item the rest of the class does not have, so evidence that the coolant has been changed carries weight here that it would not elsewhere.

General bikes, scooters & e-bikes checks

These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the bikes, scooters & e-bikes page covers them in full.

Read the chassis and engine numbers

The chassis number is stamped on the frame near the steering head and the engine number on the crankcase. Both must match the registration book character for character. Numbers that have been filed, re-stamped, painted over or welded around stop the bike from being transferred, and that is the one fault which ends a sale on the spot.

Start it from cold yourself

Ask that the bike has not been run that morning. A sound 70 or 125 fires within a couple of kicks and settles to a steady idle without the choke being held open. A cloud of blue smoke at start-up means worn rings or valve stem seals, while a top-end rattle that fades as it warms is often valve clearance but can be the cam chain tensioner.

Lift the chain off the sprocket

At the three o'clock position on the rear sprocket, pull the chain away from the teeth. If it lifts far enough to show daylight, chain and sprockets are finished as a set. Look at the teeth too: hooked, pointed profiles mean the set ran long past its life, and a worn chain left over-tight also wears the gearbox output shaft.

Bounce the front end and brake

Squeeze the front brake and push the bike forward. The forks should compress and return smoothly with no clunk, and the stanchions should be dry, since oil on a fork leg means the seal has gone. Check the wear indicator arrow on drum brakes, and roll the bike slowly to listen for a rumble from the wheel bearings.

Trace the wiring and try the self-start

Look for taped joints, extra wires run for horns and lights, and a battery box crammed with connections. A hacked loom sits behind most charging and lighting faults on these bikes. Try the self-start with the headlight on: a slow crank is often just the battery, but a bike that only ever starts on the kick has usually been living with a charging fault.

Load the battery on an electric bike

Note the pack voltage shown on the display when parked and fully charged, then ride up a slope and watch it again. A pack that drops sharply under load and recovers once you stop is near the end of its life, and on an affordable e-bike the replacement pack is the single biggest cost of ownership. Confirm the original charger and both keys are included.

Road Prince bikes, scooters & e-bikes — questions

Is a used Road Prince RP 70 easy to keep running?

Yes — it is a standard 70-class commuter, so consumables and workshop knowledge come from the general market rather than from the brand. The caution belongs with the larger models: the RP 110, RP 125 Euro II, Wego 150 and RX3 250 are served through Road Prince's own dealers, so a part for one of those is ordered rather than bought over the counter.

What is worth checking on a used Road Prince RX3 250?

Start with the cooling system, because the RX3 is liquid-cooled and almost nothing else in this class is. Look at the coolant in the expansion bottle, check the radiator fins are not flattened, and let it idle until the fan cuts in. After that, the panel mounting lugs, the chain size and whether there is a dealer service history.
