Used Honda bikes, scooters & e-bikes in Islamabad & Rawalpindi

Is a used Honda bikes, scooters & e-bike worth buying?

Atlas Honda builds the CD 70 and CG 125 in Pakistan, and the parts catalogue for those two is stocked at every level, from dealer-genuine down to the cheapest pattern part. That is what you are paying for second-hand: a bike that can be put back on the road anywhere. The CB 150F is a different proposition and should not be assumed to share it.

Assembled locally under licence

An established local service network means genuine parts are obtainable and repairs are generally worth doing.

Atlas Honda builds locally and the CD 70 and CG 125 catalogues are carried in every motorcycle market in both cities, at several quality levels for the same component, from dealer-genuine down to the cheapest copy. That spread is exactly why counterfeits in genuine-looking boxes are a Honda problem specifically — the box is only worth copying for parts that sell in these numbers — so buy consumables from a named dealer and keep the receipt for resale.

Checking a used Honda bikes, scooters & e-bike

These are specific to Honda. The general bikes, scooters & e-bikes checks apply too and are on the bikes, scooters & e-bikes page.

Match model to parts trade

A CD 70 or CG 125 can be fed from any stall in either city. A CB 150F cannot: its disc pads, five-speed internals and chain set are dealer or specialist items, because it sells in nothing like the same numbers. Decide which bike you are buying before assuming the parts story.

Kick-only or self-start

The kick-start models carry no battery at all and the lighting runs off the magneto, which is why the headlamp brightens with revs. Self-start bikes add a battery, a starter motor and a starter clutch, and the starter clutch is the one of those three that is not cheap.

Dream badge is trim

The CD 70 Dream is a trim variant of the CD 70, differing in seat, graphics and finish rather than in engine or gearbox. Check what is actually different on the bike in front of you, and do not pay for a mechanical upgrade that was never there.

Ask what the rebuild used

The CD 70 and CG 125 catalogues are the most copied in the country, and the copies arrive in convincing genuine-looking boxes. Ask where the piston, rings and clutch plates came from at the last engine job; a bike losing compression soon after a rebuild is usually answering that question for you.

What Honda bikes, scooters & e-bikes are worth

  • Value here rests on the depth of the parts catalogue rather than on the badge alone: a CD 70 or CG 125 can be repaired anywhere, at whatever quality the owner chooses, and buyers price that certainty in.
  • The CB 150F sits in a thinner used market — fewer buyers search for it by name and its disc and five-speed parts come through dealers — so it is assessed on a different basis from the 70 and 125.
  • An engine rebuilt on counterfeit consumables assesses below one rebuilt on dealer-sourced parts, because the buyer inherits the risk of a repeat top-end job.
  • These are the most numerous bikes in the country, so tampered stampings do turn up, and a file that does not match the frame is the fastest way to lose value on one.

General bikes, scooters & e-bikes checks

These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the bikes, scooters & e-bikes page covers them in full.

Read the chassis and engine numbers

The chassis number is stamped on the frame near the steering head and the engine number on the crankcase. Both must match the registration book character for character. Numbers that have been filed, re-stamped, painted over or welded around stop the bike from being transferred, and that is the one fault which ends a sale on the spot.

Start it from cold yourself

Ask that the bike has not been run that morning. A sound 70 or 125 fires within a couple of kicks and settles to a steady idle without the choke being held open. A cloud of blue smoke at start-up means worn rings or valve stem seals, while a top-end rattle that fades as it warms is often valve clearance but can be the cam chain tensioner.

Lift the chain off the sprocket

At the three o'clock position on the rear sprocket, pull the chain away from the teeth. If it lifts far enough to show daylight, chain and sprockets are finished as a set. Look at the teeth too: hooked, pointed profiles mean the set ran long past its life, and a worn chain left over-tight also wears the gearbox output shaft.

Bounce the front end and brake

Squeeze the front brake and push the bike forward. The forks should compress and return smoothly with no clunk, and the stanchions should be dry, since oil on a fork leg means the seal has gone. Check the wear indicator arrow on drum brakes, and roll the bike slowly to listen for a rumble from the wheel bearings.

Trace the wiring and try the self-start

Look for taped joints, extra wires run for horns and lights, and a battery box crammed with connections. A hacked loom sits behind most charging and lighting faults on these bikes. Try the self-start with the headlight on: a slow crank is often just the battery, but a bike that only ever starts on the kick has usually been living with a charging fault.

Load the battery on an electric bike

Note the pack voltage shown on the display when parked and fully charged, then ride up a slope and watch it again. A pack that drops sharply under load and recovers once you stop is near the end of its life, and on an affordable e-bike the replacement pack is the single biggest cost of ownership. Confirm the original charger and both keys are included.

Honda bikes, scooters & e-bikes — questions

Is a used CB 150F the same buying proposition as a CD 70 or CG 125?

No. The 70 and 125 can be repaired from general market stock anywhere in either city, while the CB 150F's disc pads, five-speed internals and chain set come through dealers or specialists, because it sells in nothing like the same numbers. It is the better-equipped bike; it is also the one where a part can mean a wait, so buy it from someone who has kept it serviced.

Why are counterfeit parts such a problem on used Hondas?

Because the counterfeit trade follows volume, and the CD 70 and CG 125 catalogues are the ones worth copying. The copies come in convincing genuine-looking boxes, so the fault surfaces months later as a bike losing compression after what was sold as a rebuild. Ask what the last engine job used and where it was bought, and buy your own consumables from a named dealer.
