Used Uniview cctv & security systems in Islamabad & Rawalpindi
Is a used Uniview cctv & security system worth buying?
Uniview is the third of the large Chinese surveillance makers, and the model number does more work here than the badge: in a code like IPC2124 the last digit of the numeric block is the sensor's megapixels, and a PF28 or PF40 suffix is the fixed lens in millimetres. That lets you tell what a used camera actually is before you power it up. Fewer twin-cities dealers stock it than the two bigger brands.
Imported
Parts usually have to be imported or sourced from the grey market, so a repair takes longer and costs more — which matters more on an older unit than the build quality does.
Uniview is imported and carried by fewer twin-cities dealers than Hikvision or Dahua, so generic brackets, power supplies and connectors are easy while a body-matched camera or its pole and junction-box adapter may need ordering. Clean ONVIF behaviour softens this, because the replacement can often be another brand entirely once the stream is off Ultra 265.

Checking a used Uniview cctv & security system
These are specific to Uniview. The general cctv & security systems checks apply too and are on the cctv & security systems page.
Decode the model number
IPC2122 and IPC2124 are the same body at two and four megapixels, and the PF28 or PF40 block is the fixed focal length in millimetres. Read it off the label and check the lens matches, since a swapped or repaired camera often no longer matches its own code.
Turn off Ultra 265
Ultra 265 is Uniview's own compression and third-party recorders and ONVIF clients cannot decode it, which looks exactly like a dead camera. Set the main stream to H.265 or H.264 before you test the unit anywhere other than a UNV recorder.
Look for an ONVIF user
On some UNV firmware the ONVIF login is a separate account from the web admin, and that is the usual reason a recorder reports a wrong password on a camera you can log into perfectly well. Check the user list and add one before deciding the camera is faulty.
Test the security questions
Password recovery here runs through security questions set on the device or an export file processed by support, and there is no button that simply clears the password. Confirm the questions are set and known, or insist the seller resets the device and hands it over open.
Clear the EZCloud registration
The register code on the label binds the device to the seller's EZView account, and it will not join yours until theirs releases it. Have them delete it in the app while you watch, then add it to your own account on the spot.
What Uniview cctv & security systems are worth
- A legible model code is part of the value, because it names resolution and lens length outright and a buyer does not have to take the seller's word on either.
- A camera paired with a UNV recorder is worth more together than apart, since Ultra 265's storage saving only exists when both ends of the link are Uniview.
- A device with no security questions set is effectively unrecoverable if the password is ever lost, and cautious buyers grade it accordingly.
- Fewer twin-cities dealers stock UNV, so replacing one camera in a kit means matching the body and its bracket pattern, which may have to be ordered rather than bought off a shelf.

General cctv & security systems checks
These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the cctv & security systems page covers them in full.
Watch the night picture
Cup a hand over the lens or view the feed in a darkened room. You should hear a faint click as the infrared cut filter moves and see the picture turn to clean monochrome; LEDs that never light, or a milky washed-out grey image, mean the IR array or the filter has failed and night footage will be useless.
Scroll back through playback
Ask to play back yesterday's recording from the recorder's own menu rather than only looking at live view. Smooth playback across several channels means the disk and the board are working; freezing, missing hours, or a recorder that shows live video but nothing recorded usually means the surveillance drive is failing.
Inspect the camera pigtail
Look at the short cable tail at the back of each camera where the connectors sit. Clean, dry connectors with the rubber boot intact are what you want; taped joints, green corrosion on BNC or RJ45 pins, or a tail chewed by rodents cause intermittent dropouts that get blamed on the camera itself.
Look inside the dome
Hold the camera up to the light and look through the dome cover for droplets, fogging, or a tide mark on the inside. Moisture inside the housing means the gasket has failed, and the board behind it will already be corroding even if today's picture still looks acceptable.
Log in as admin
Have the seller enter the recorder's admin password in front of you and open the settings menu. If they cannot, treat the unit as scrap: Hikvision and Dahua recorders need a reset code generated from the serial number and the device date, and older models may no longer be supported for that at all.
Match cameras to recorder
Establish whether the cameras are analogue HD (AHD, TVI or CVI) or IP, and whether the recorder has free channels of that same type. Cameras bought without a matching recorder, or IP cameras destined for an analogue DVR, cannot be connected at all without replacing the recorder.
