Used Tenda cctv & security systems in Islamabad & Rawalpindi
Is a used Tenda cctv & security system worth buying?
Tenda's cameras come out of its networking business and the range shows it: Wi-Fi bodies with a microSD slot and no recorder anywhere in the line-up, set up through Tenda's camera app rather than the router app people already have. CP-numbered models are the indoor pan-and-tilt ones, CT-numbered models the fixed outdoor bodies. Buy one as a standalone camera, not as the start of a system.
Imported
Parts usually have to be imported or sourced from the grey market, so a repair takes longer and costs more — which matters more on an older unit than the build quality does.
Tenda's cameras are imported and move through the same distributors as its routers, so a warranty claim goes to a computer or networking dealer rather than a CCTV service counter. Mounts, memory cards and the 5V USB or 12V barrel adapters they use are ordinary purchases in the twin cities; the cameras are sealed, and no pan-tilt gear assembly is sold as a spare.

These are specific to Tenda. The general cctv & security systems checks apply too and are on the cctv & security systems page.
Match CP and CT bodies
CP-numbered cameras are indoor pan-and-tilt units and CT-numbered ones are the weather-rated fixed outdoor bodies. Read the model off the base, because an indoor CP body mounted under an open eave is a common shortcut and it will not survive a monsoon.
Run pan and tilt fully
On the CP bodies the plastic gear train is the wear point. Drive the head fully left and right, then call a preset and see whether it lands where it should; one that overshoots, grinds or stalls at a stop is a fixed camera from that day on.
Release it in the app
Tenda's cameras are managed in its camera app, not the router app that many owners assume, and the device stays bound to whichever account set it up. Have the seller delete it there while you watch, then pair it to your own phone before paying.
Test the card recording
There is no Tenda recorder in the range, so the microSD card and the cloud subscription are the only storage that exists. Record a clip, play it back through the app, and treat a failed slot as making it a live-view-only camera.
Read the serial label
Local warranty on Tenda runs through the networking distributors that sell its routers and is claimed against the serial, not through a CCTV service counter. A legible serial label with the box behind it is what makes any remaining warranty usable at all.
What Tenda cctv & security systems are worth
- There is no Tenda recorder to build around, so a used camera is only ever a single endpoint and a multi-camera lot earns nothing for being matched.
- Warranty sits with the networking distributors that handle Tenda's routers, so a unit with a legible serial and its box is claimable where a stripped one is not.
- On the pan-and-tilt bodies the gear train sets the grade, because a camera that no longer holds a preset is judged as a fixed camera whatever it cost new.
- Being stocked beside routers in computer shops rather than by CCTV dealers narrows the buyer pool to households and shopkeepers rather than installers.

General cctv & security systems checks
These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the cctv & security systems page covers them in full.
Watch the night picture
Cup a hand over the lens or view the feed in a darkened room. You should hear a faint click as the infrared cut filter moves and see the picture turn to clean monochrome; LEDs that never light, or a milky washed-out grey image, mean the IR array or the filter has failed and night footage will be useless.
Scroll back through playback
Ask to play back yesterday's recording from the recorder's own menu rather than only looking at live view. Smooth playback across several channels means the disk and the board are working; freezing, missing hours, or a recorder that shows live video but nothing recorded usually means the surveillance drive is failing.
Inspect the camera pigtail
Look at the short cable tail at the back of each camera where the connectors sit. Clean, dry connectors with the rubber boot intact are what you want; taped joints, green corrosion on BNC or RJ45 pins, or a tail chewed by rodents cause intermittent dropouts that get blamed on the camera itself.
Look inside the dome
Hold the camera up to the light and look through the dome cover for droplets, fogging, or a tide mark on the inside. Moisture inside the housing means the gasket has failed, and the board behind it will already be corroding even if today's picture still looks acceptable.
Log in as admin
Have the seller enter the recorder's admin password in front of you and open the settings menu. If they cannot, treat the unit as scrap: Hikvision and Dahua recorders need a reset code generated from the serial number and the device date, and older models may no longer be supported for that at all.
Match cameras to recorder
Establish whether the cameras are analogue HD (AHD, TVI or CVI) or IP, and whether the recorder has free channels of that same type. Cameras bought without a matching recorder, or IP cameras destined for an analogue DVR, cannot be connected at all without replacing the recorder.
