Used Interwood office furniture in Islamabad & Rawalpindi
Is a used Interwood office furniture worth buying?
Interwood is a Pakistani manufacturer with showrooms, a printed catalogue and an after-sales department, which in an office-furniture market full of nameless workshop pieces is the whole point: a used desk can be identified by range and finish, and its hinges, slides and lock barrels matched by pattern. The catch is that its designs are widely copied by local workshops, so identification comes first. Most used stock comes out of office clearances.
Made or assembled in Pakistan
Spares are widely stocked locally and most technicians in the twin cities have worked on these, so common faults are usually economic to repair.
Interwood manufactures and retails in Pakistan with a showroom presence in Islamabad and an after-sales department, so hardware is matched either through the brand or, more usually, by pattern at Rawalpindi's furniture hardware shops — slides by length and mounting type, hinges by cup size, castors by stem diameter. Panels are the exception: a swollen or chipped board is remade by a carpenter, never ordered as a spare.

Checking a used Interwood office furniture
These are specific to Interwood. The general office furniture checks apply too and are on the office furniture page.
Read the hardware stamps
Genuine pieces run branded European-pattern hinges and slides with the maker's mark pressed into the metal, and that name plus the slide length is exactly what a hardware shop needs to match one. Unbranded hardware under an Interwood-looking desk usually means a workshop copy.
Find the maker's label
Look under the desktop, inside the top drawer or on the back panel for a printed label or stamp. It is the quickest separation between a genuine piece and one of the many local builds of the same design.
Tell veneer from melamine
Look into the cable grommet cut-out and along a cut edge: a veneer top shows a real wood face over a different core and can be sanded and re-polished, while melamine is a printed surface where any burn-through is permanent. The executive ranges are veneer, the workstation ranges are not.
Note the finish name
Record the finish or colour name from the label while you have the piece in front of you. Adding a matching desk a year later against a shade you cannot name almost never works, because finishes are revised between ranges.
Check the lock barrel number
Pedestal cam locks usually carry a code stamped on the barrel face, and that code is how a hardware shop supplies a replacement key or barrel. A lost key with no legible number means the lock gets drilled out and replaced instead.
What Interwood office furniture are worth
- Because the designs are widely copied, a piece that can be shown genuine by its label and branded hardware places far more easily than an identical-looking one that cannot.
- Office clearances release desks in a single laminate batch, so a matched cluster holds value better than the same desks split up, given that finishes change between ranges.
- Wearing parts — hinges, slides, castors, gas lifts and lock barrels — are matchable by pattern locally, so a fault there costs a grade rather than the piece.
- Swollen board is the hard ceiling, because an engineered panel cannot be dried back and a wet pedestal side has to be remade by a carpenter rather than repaired.
General office furniture checks
These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the office furniture page covers them in full.
Sit and watch the height
Set the chair high, sit down with your full weight and stay there a minute or two. A gas cylinder on its way out sinks slowly and steadily. Cylinders are a standard part matched by taper and stroke length, so it is a fix rather than a write-off, but it is the fault to expect on any used revolving chair.
Turn the chair upside down
Look at the five-star base where each arm meets the hub, especially on nylon bases, for hairline cracks that open under load. Then spin every castor; a seized one scores floors and is usually just hair wound round the axle.
Work the tilt and its lock
Rock back, lock the tilt upright, and wind the tension knob from one end of its travel to the other. A tilt that will not lock, or a knob that spins without changing anything, means the mechanism is finished, and on most chairs it is riveted to the seat pan.
Press the mesh back flat-handed
Push into the middle of a mesh back with an open palm. Sound mesh springs back evenly. A sagging pocket, or fraying where the fabric is clamped into the frame edge, means the mesh has stretched, and it cannot be re-tensioned on most models.
Check the desk underside
Look under the melamine top at the edge banding, around the cable grommet, and at the screw fixings into the leg frame and modesty panel. Swollen board along a screw line means the desk has already been taken apart and re-fixed once, and it will not hold a third time.
Load a filing cabinet drawer
Pull each drawer right out with weight in it. Runners should not sag or grate at full extension, only one drawer should open at a time if the anti-tilt interlock still works, and the keys should be with the cabinet, since replacements are cut from a code on the lock face.
