Used Multiwood office furniture in Islamabad & Rawalpindi
Is a used Multiwood office furniture worth buying?
Multiwood is an office-furniture maker, and most of what reaches the second-hand market is fit-out stock: a floor of desks, screens and pedestals made together to one office's specification and leaving together when that office moves. Consistency across the lot is the strength — one board finish, one desk pitch, one wear history. The limitation is that the run was made for that job and cannot be topped up later.
Made or assembled in Pakistan
Spares are widely stocked locally and most technicians in the twin cities have worked on these, so common faults are usually economic to repair.
A fit-out run is not a catalogue line, so a damaged panel is not ordered — it is copied by a joinery workshop in Rawalpindi from the piece itself, in the nearest board and edge banding, which comes out close rather than identical. Chair hardware such as castors, gas lifts and arm pads is generic and easy to find in both cities; an exact finish match is the thing not to count on.

Checking a used Multiwood office furniture
These are specific to Multiwood. The general office furniture checks apply too and are on the office furniture page.
Compare the board finish
A project run is made in one batch to one specification, so desks from two different Multiwood fit-outs rarely share the same laminate decor or edge colour. Stand two tops side by side in daylight before you agree to combine lots.
Look under the worktop
Fit-out furniture usually carries a maker's label or a job marking on the underside of the top or inside a pedestal drawer. That marking is what ties a desk to its original office, which is the only reliable way to know the rest of the lot will match it.
Check the executive tops
The executive and conference tables use veneered and gloss finishes over a board carcass, and those fail at the edges — a lifted lip at the wire cut-out, or bubbling along the modesty panel. Refinishing gloss or veneer is a workshop job, unlike a laminate top that simply scratches.
Ask how it dismantles
Boardroom tables and reception counters from these fit-outs are built as sections and joined on site, so they come apart again only if the connecting bolts and leaf plates are still with them. Measure your doorway and stairwell, because a section that cannot be split will not go up.
What Multiwood office furniture are worth
- Whole floor lots hold value where singles do not, because the buyer for fit-out furniture is furnishing a room and needs matching pieces rather than one desk.
- A piece traceable to its fit-out — same decor, same screen height, same pitch — can be joined to the rest of that lot, while an orphan cannot be topped up, since the run was made to a project specification and never stocked as a catalogue line.
- Gloss and veneered executive tops grade harder than laminate workstations, because a lifted veneer or a bubbled gloss edge is a refinishing job while a laminate top only scratches.
- Site-assembled boardroom and reception pieces lose value once their joining hardware goes missing, because without it they cannot be dismantled and moved into another building.
General office furniture checks
These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the office furniture page covers them in full.
Sit and watch the height
Set the chair high, sit down with your full weight and stay there a minute or two. A gas cylinder on its way out sinks slowly and steadily. Cylinders are a standard part matched by taper and stroke length, so it is a fix rather than a write-off, but it is the fault to expect on any used revolving chair.
Turn the chair upside down
Look at the five-star base where each arm meets the hub, especially on nylon bases, for hairline cracks that open under load. Then spin every castor; a seized one scores floors and is usually just hair wound round the axle.
Work the tilt and its lock
Rock back, lock the tilt upright, and wind the tension knob from one end of its travel to the other. A tilt that will not lock, or a knob that spins without changing anything, means the mechanism is finished, and on most chairs it is riveted to the seat pan.
Press the mesh back flat-handed
Push into the middle of a mesh back with an open palm. Sound mesh springs back evenly. A sagging pocket, or fraying where the fabric is clamped into the frame edge, means the mesh has stretched, and it cannot be re-tensioned on most models.
Check the desk underside
Look under the melamine top at the edge banding, around the cable grommet, and at the screw fixings into the leg frame and modesty panel. Swollen board along a screw line means the desk has already been taken apart and re-fixed once, and it will not hold a third time.
Load a filing cabinet drawer
Pull each drawer right out with weight in it. Runners should not sag or grate at full extension, only one drawer should open at a time if the anti-tilt interlock still works, and the keys should be with the cabinet, since replacements are cut from a code on the lock face.
