Used Habitt office furniture in Islamabad & Rawalpindi
Is a used Habitt office furniture worth buying?
Habitt is a Pakistani home retailer rather than an office furniture maker, so what it calls a desk is study-scale: flat-packed laminate carcasses, roller drawer runners rather than ball-bearing slides, and home-grade fabric on the seating. Pieces carry an article code on the label or the assembly sheet, and whether that code is still listed in store decides whether a second matching one can be bought at all.
Made or assembled in Pakistan
Spares are widely stocked locally and most technicians in the twin cities have worked on these, so common faults are usually economic to repair.
Habitt is a Pakistani retail chain, with Islamabad among its store locations, that sells finished items rather than components — so the practical recovery for a damaged piece is buying the same item again while the range is listed, not ordering a part. Wearing parts are standard sizes: castors, roller runners, cup hinges and gas lifts are matched by measurement at a hardware or chair-repair shop in Rawalpindi. Carcass panels and range-matched fabric are not obtainable.

Checking a used Habitt office furniture
These are specific to Habitt. The general office furniture checks apply too and are on the office furniture page.
Find the article code
It is printed on a label under the seat or inside a drawer and repeated on the assembly sheet. With it you can check whether the range is still sold, which is the only route to a matching second piece, since components are not sold separately.
Pull a drawer fully out
Home-retail desks and pedestals run side-mounted roller runners rather than ball-bearing slides: single extension, and they sag once a drawer is loaded with files. Check the runner is straight and the plastic roller has not flattened on one side.
Measure against your existing desk
These are built to study heights and depths, so a Habitt pedestal will usually not slide under a contract-grade worktop and a Habitt desk will not line up alongside an office cluster. Take the measurements with you rather than trusting the photograph.
Ask for the fittings bag
Flat-packed carcasses depend on the right cam bolts and dowels, and the assembly sheet carries both the sequence and the article code. Without them, the next reassembly is guesswork and the fixing holes get widened in the process.
Check the sun-facing side
Home pieces live beside windows, so fabric fades and laminate yellows on one face while the other stays as it was. Compare both sides of the same piece before agreeing anything, because neither can be brought back.
What Habitt office furniture are worth
- A range still listed in store is what actually makes a used Habitt piece easy to place, since a buyer can see the current version and can still buy a second matching item outright.
- Home-scale dimensions keep the buyer pool to households and study corners, because the heights and depths will not sit alongside contract office furniture.
- Flat-packed carcasses and roller runners lose condition through dismantling and loading rather than age, so a piece that stayed in one room outgrades an older one that has moved twice.
- Home-grade upholstery is judged on fading and coating condition because that is what shows in every photograph a buyer sees, and neither can be reversed.
General office furniture checks
These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the office furniture page covers them in full.
Sit and watch the height
Set the chair high, sit down with your full weight and stay there a minute or two. A gas cylinder on its way out sinks slowly and steadily. Cylinders are a standard part matched by taper and stroke length, so it is a fix rather than a write-off, but it is the fault to expect on any used revolving chair.
Turn the chair upside down
Look at the five-star base where each arm meets the hub, especially on nylon bases, for hairline cracks that open under load. Then spin every castor; a seized one scores floors and is usually just hair wound round the axle.
Work the tilt and its lock
Rock back, lock the tilt upright, and wind the tension knob from one end of its travel to the other. A tilt that will not lock, or a knob that spins without changing anything, means the mechanism is finished, and on most chairs it is riveted to the seat pan.
Press the mesh back flat-handed
Push into the middle of a mesh back with an open palm. Sound mesh springs back evenly. A sagging pocket, or fraying where the fabric is clamped into the frame edge, means the mesh has stretched, and it cannot be re-tensioned on most models.
Check the desk underside
Look under the melamine top at the edge banding, around the cable grommet, and at the screw fixings into the leg frame and modesty panel. Swollen board along a screw line means the desk has already been taken apart and re-fixed once, and it will not hold a third time.
Load a filing cabinet drawer
Pull each drawer right out with weight in it. Runners should not sag or grate at full extension, only one drawer should open at a time if the anti-tilt interlock still works, and the keys should be with the cabinet, since replacements are cut from a code on the lock face.
