Used Prestige kitchenware & crockery in Islamabad & Rawalpindi
Is a used Prestige kitchenware & crockery worth buying?
Prestige cookware is imported from India and is among the most-copied names in the market, so identification comes first. On a genuine unit the wear items are all consumables — gasket, safety valve, fusible plug, vent tube — and those are replaceable. A warped sealing rim or a cracked handle is not, and that is what actually ends a pressure cooker's life.
Imported
Parts usually have to be imported or sourced from the grey market, so a repair takes longer and costs more — which matters more on an older unit than the build quality does.
Prestige is imported, but the parts that wear are near-universal: gaskets, valves and fusible plugs in standard sizes are stocked by hardware shops across Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Model-specific handles and lids are the awkward items and usually have to be matched second-hand.

Checking a used Prestige kitchenware & crockery
These are specific to Prestige. The general kitchenware & crockery checks apply too and are on the kitchenware & crockery page.
Verify it is Prestige
Look for the brand stamped into the body or lid rather than printed on a sticker, and for the model name cast into the handle. Unbranded Indian-style cookers are common and should be priced as generic, not as Prestige.
Seat the lid cold
With the gasket out, the lid should drop into the rim and rotate without binding. Binding or an uneven gap means the rim has been dropped and distorted — that fault cannot be corrected and the cooker is done.
Account for the safety parts
Gasket, weight or pressure regulator, safety valve and fusible plug must all be present. These are consumables sold in local hardware markets, but a cooker missing them is For Parts / Repair until they are fitted.
Check the base flatness
Set it on glass. Hard-anodised and induction-base models warp if run dry, and a rocking base wastes gas and cooks unevenly.
Look inside a hard-anodised body
Pitting or a chalky grey surface means the anodised layer has been attacked by acidic cooking or dishwashing. It is not repairable and it is what buyers of the Omega and hard-anodised ranges look for.
What Prestige kitchenware & crockery are worth
- Genuine, identifiable units hold value above the category average because so much of what is sold as Prestige cannot be verified.
- Consumable safety parts are cheap and locally available, so a cooker missing a gasket loses little — a distorted rim loses almost everything.
- Hard-anodised bodies with interior pitting fall behind plain stainless equivalents, since the damage is permanent and visible.

General kitchenware & crockery checks
These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the kitchenware & crockery page covers them in full.
Count settings and serving pieces
Lay a dinner service out and check it against the number of place settings it was sold as, then count the serving pieces separately: lidded bowls, the gravy jug, the large platter. A set that still has its plates but none of those sells as loose plates rather than as a service.
Run a fingernail over rims
Chips and hairline cracks catch the nail before the eye finds them. Hold plates against a window as well: a fine network of cracks in the glaze, called crazing, stains permanently and keeps spreading, so a crazed piece is decorative rather than daily crockery.
Stand pans on flat surface
Press each edge of the base in turn. A pan that rocks has a warped bottom and will never sit properly on a hotplate or a modern hob. Look inside stainless steel for small pits, which come from salt left standing in the pan and will not polish out.
Look at the non-stick centre
Deep scratches down to the metal, blistering, or coating lifting at the edge mean the pan has reached the end of its life, since recoating is not practical here. A coating that is intact but dulled still cooks properly and simply grades lower.
Work the pressure cooker valves
Press the safety valve and lift the vent weight; both must move freely. The gasket should still be soft and spring back when squeezed, not hard and flattened. A valve replaced with a bolt, or a lid whose lugs are distorted, is not something to cook with.
Read the backstamp underneath
The maker's mark and pattern name on the base decide whether the set can be topped up later. Unmarked or long-discontinued patterns cannot be matched, and a gold or metallic rim, however smart it looks, rules the piece out of the microwave.
