Used KSB industrial & commercial machinery in Islamabad & Rawalpindi
Is a used KSB industrial & commercial machinery worth buying?
KSB manufactures in Pakistan at Hasan Abdal, with its own foundry, which is unusual for an internationally badged industrial pump. It means casings, impellers and seals are sourced domestically instead of imported, and identification questions can be answered against the serial without going abroad. The catch is that a used pump is only as useful as the duty it was actually built for.
Assembled locally under licence
An established local service network means genuine parts are obtainable and repairs are generally worth doing.
KSB manufactures and casts at Hasan Abdal and supports its range through its own network, so impellers, casings, shafts and mechanical seals come from within the country rather than an importer, and EN 733 construction means bearing and seal sizes are standard items rather than proprietary ones. For an older or discontinued model, an enquiry against the serial saves a great deal of guessing before any part is ordered.
Checking a used KSB industrial & commercial machinery
These are specific to KSB. The general industrial & commercial machinery checks apply too and are on the industrial & commercial machinery page.
Decode the size designation
An Etanorm-style code such as 065-040-200 reads as suction bore, discharge bore and nominal impeller diameter in millimetres. Measure the impeller actually fitted, because many are trimmed down to a specific duty and a trimmed impeller will not make the head the code implies.
Confirm it is EN 733
Etanorm and Etabloc are built to the EN 733 dimensional standard, so flange positions, shaft height and foot pattern are set by the standard rather than by the maker. That is what lets a used one drop onto an existing baseplate and pipework, and it is the fact that decides how easily it resells.
Check the back pull-out
On the back pull-out layout the bearing bracket, shaft and impeller come out as one unit with the casing left bolted into the line. Ask whether that rotating assembly has ever been changed, and look at the wear ring clearance while it is out, since ring wear costs flow without making any noise.
Match the serial at source
KSB's Hasan Abdal works can identify a pump from its serial and give the original duty curve. On an imported pump that enquiry goes overseas or nowhere; here it is a domestic call, and it is what turns an anonymous second-hand pump into one a buyer can size with confidence.
Count the stages
Movitec and Multitec are multistage: many small impellers in a stack with a diffuser between each. They are not assessed like a single-stage Etanorm, because wear is spread through the whole stack and a rebuild means matching more parts.
What KSB industrial & commercial machinery are worth
- EN 733 dimensions mean a used Etanorm can replace a failed pump of any make on the same duty without redoing the baseplate or the pipework, which widens the buyer pool in a way a non-standardised pump cannot.
- Because casings and impellers are cast at Hasan Abdal, a damaged wet end is a repair within the country rather than a write-off, and that keeps value in older pumps.
- A pump whose serial still ties back to a factory curve sells more easily than an identical one with an unreadable plate, because the buyer can size it instead of guessing.
- Multistage Movitec and Multitec units are assessed more cautiously than single-stage pumps, since wear runs through a stack of impellers and diffusers that all have to be matched.

General industrial & commercial machinery checks
These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the industrial & commercial machinery page covers them in full.
Put a real load on it
An unloaded machine tells you little. On an air compressor, time it up to cut-out pressure, then stop it and watch the gauge: a receiver that bleeds down within minutes has leaking valves, unions or a worn non-return valve. On a driven machine, load the spindle or the feed and listen for the motor bogging down.
Check the floor, not the machine
Machines get wiped down before a viewing; the floor underneath does not. A dark patch under the sump, gearbox or hydraulic ram records a leak that has been running a long time. Fresh paint on a gearbox casing or a cylinder head usually hides the trace of that leak rather than a restoration.
Compare the hour meter with the wear
Hour meters are the odometer of this category and are swapped just as freely. Read it, then look at the controls: handwheel knurling worn smooth, polished slideways, pedals rubbed bare. Low hours on a machine with heavily worn controls means the meter has been changed or left disconnected, and the reading is worth nothing.
Wind the handwheels and feel the backlash
On a lathe or milling machine, turn each handwheel back and forth. The free movement before the slide actually travels is backlash in the leadscrew and nut, and a large amount means the machine can no longer hold a size. Check the bedways for scoring and for a worn dip near the chuck, which is where the work has been done.
Read the plate for supply and starter
The rating plate gives the kilowatts, the phase and the full-load current, which decides whether a site can run the machine at all. Ask whether the starter, contactors and overload relay are included, since a motor above a few kilowatts needs proper starting gear and a machine arriving without its panel is not ready to work.
Look inside the pressure vessel's drain
Open the drain valve at the bottom of an air receiver. Water should come out, because a tank drained regularly has some. A drain left shut for years means the vessel has been standing in its own condensate and corroding from the inside, which cannot be seen from outside and cannot be repaired.
