Used Kenwood air conditioners in Islamabad & Rawalpindi
Is a used Kenwood air conditioner worth buying?
Kenwood is a large air-conditioner name in Pakistan, sold under e-prefixed line names, and the same name appears on quite different products elsewhere in the world, which is a steady source of confusion. Rather than assume anything about where a particular unit was built or who supports it here, read the rating plate: it names the manufacturer or marketing company, the country of origin and the model string.
Mixed — partly assembled locally
Parts availability depends on the model line: locally assembled ranges are straightforward, imported ones less so. Worth confirming before you count on a repair.
Kenwood spares in Islamabad and Rawalpindi are ordered against the e-series line and the model string rather than pulled off a general shelf, so it is worth ringing a shop with both before committing. Universal items — capacitors, contactors, refrigerant — are no different from any other split.

Checking a used Kenwood air conditioner
These are specific to Kenwood. The general air conditioners checks apply too and are on the air conditioners page.
Read the e-series name
Kenwood names its lines with a lower-case e prefix — eAmore, eXtreme, eGrande, eNova and the like. Boards, remotes and fascia parts differ between those lines, so every parts enquiry has to begin with the name on the indoor plate rather than the tonnage.
Read the origin line
The rating plate carries the country of manufacture along with the name and address of the company marketing the unit in Pakistan. On a brand whose name is shared with quite different products abroad, that plate is the only statement about this machine worth relying on.
Check the front cover
Kenwood's fascias and filter frames are matched to the line rather than to the capacity, so a cracked cover means finding the part for that exact e-series line. Check the cover, its clips and the filter frame before treating cosmetic damage as merely cosmetic.
What Kenwood air conditioners are worth
- A Kenwood that can show its e-line name and a legible rating plate places more easily than one that cannot, because a fascia, a board or a handset is ordered against the line and not against the tonnage.
- Kenwood spares reach the open independent trade less reliably than the volume brands' do, which a buyer can test with two phone calls, so a unit with a known fault waits longer for its repair and the waiting is what comes off the offer.
- Because the Kenwood name is shared with unrelated products abroad, a used unit whose rating plate cannot be read invites questions that a photograph of the plate would have settled, and unanswered questions come off the price.

General air conditioners checks
These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the air conditioners page covers them in full.
Measure the temperature split
Run the unit for fifteen minutes, then compare the air being drawn into the indoor grille with the air leaving the vent. A healthy split is obvious to the hand and clear on a thermometer. A narrow gap after a full cycle usually points at low refrigerant or a tired compressor, and both are expensive.
Watch the outdoor unit start
Stand at the outdoor unit as the compressor kicks in. It should start within a couple of minutes and settle into a steady hum. Starting and stopping every few minutes, or a hard mechanical knock at start-up, is a compressor or capacitor symptom rather than a quirk of the model.
Look for oil at joints
Refrigerant carries compressor oil, so a leak leaves a dark, oily film at the flare nuts and along the copper. A unit that cools today with oily joints will need gas again, and a refill without a leak repair does not hold for long.
Confirm inverter behaviour
An inverter compressor should slow down once the room reaches the set temperature instead of switching off outright. If the outdoor unit only ever runs flat out and then stops dead, either the unit is not the inverter model it is described as, or its control board has stopped modulating.
Check the drain runs clear
After the unit has been running a while, water should leave the drain pipe steadily and nowhere else. No water at all suggests a blocked line, and damp on the wall below the indoor unit means the condensate has found another route out, which shows up later as staining and mould.
Test the remote and supply
Cycle cooling, fan speed, swing and temperature, and confirm the unit obeys each command rather than merely lighting up the display. A missing remote is common and replaceable; a unit that responds to only some commands points at the control board. Ask what supply it was run on as well, since a split wants its own circuit and an isolator, and a stabiliser with scorched terminals says the voltage it lived with was rough.
