Used Waves refrigerators & freezers in Islamabad & Rawalpindi
Is a used Waves refrigerators & freezer worth buying?
Waves is a long-standing local manufacturer whose second-hand stock is mostly freezers rather than fridges — chest and upright cabinets coming out of shops, canteens and homes. The brand now sits alongside Singer in one Pakistani group, so its retail and service footprint is shared with that name, which is worth knowing when a thermostat or a lid seal is needed.
Made or assembled in Pakistan
Spares are widely stocked locally and most technicians in the twin cities have worked on these, so common faults are usually economic to repair.
Thermostats, starting relays, lid seals and hinges for Waves are ordinary counter items in both cities, and the group's shared Waves and Singer service points are a second route for them. Cabinet parts are the opposite: a replacement inner liner is effectively unobtainable, which is exactly why liner damage is decisive.

Checking a used Waves refrigerators & freezer
These are specific to Waves. The general refrigerators & freezers checks apply too and are on the refrigerators & freezers page.
Ask where it worked
A Waves chest freezer is as likely to have come out of a shop as a kitchen, and the two histories leave different marks: trolley dents along the front, a padlock hasp screwed to the lid, rust starting at the base from a wet floor. None of it is fatal, but it tells you how many lid cycles the seal and hinges have taken.
Check the liner corners
Look along the bottom corners of the inner liner for splits or bulges, because this is the one part of the cabinet nobody can supply. Once moisture is into the foam the freezer never holds temperature properly again, and no amount of gas or thermostat work changes that.
Try a Singer service point
Waves and Singer are sold by the same group here, so the group's service points are a realistic second route for lid seals, hinges, thermostats and starting relays. Worth a call with the model plate in hand before assuming an older cabinet is unsupported.
Ask about its hold time
These were bought in numbers to ride out long outages, so the useful question is how long it stays frozen with the power off, not simply whether it cools. Hold time falls before cooling does when insulation has taken on moisture, which makes it the earliest sign of a liner problem.
What Waves refrigerators & freezers are worth
- Sharing a group with Singer keeps the ordinary faults cheap on these — seals, hinges, thermostats and relays are stocked rather than ordered — so a mechanical fault barely moves the value.
- Wet insulation does move it, and permanently, because the liner is the one part of the cabinet that cannot be replaced: a freezer that still sounds healthy can be worth far less than it seems.
- Within the Waves range the freezers hold value better than the refrigerators, because households and small food businesses bid for the same freezer while a Waves fridge is compared against Dawlance and PEL cabinets.
General refrigerators & freezers checks
These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the refrigerators & freezers page covers them in full.
Do the door seal test
Close the door on a banknote and pull it out. The seal should grip along every edge, corners included. Anywhere the note slides free, the gasket has hardened or the door has dropped, and the compressor will run far longer than it should to hold temperature.
Listen to the compressor cycle
A healthy compressor starts with a quiet click from the relay and settles into a steady low hum. Clicking every few minutes without the hum settling means the relay or overload protector is tripping, and a loud metallic rattle from the compressor body itself is a sealed-system fault.
Feel the back panel
Once the unit has run for a while, the condenser at the back or along the sides of the cabinet should be warm, because that is the heat being pushed out of the box. A fridge that runs constantly yet stays cool all over has usually lost its gas.
Read the frost pattern
On a no-frost model, heavy ice on the rear panel or a solid block over the fan means the defrost heater or its timer has failed. On a direct-cool model some frost is normal, but ice thick enough to trap the shelves points to a door left ajar or a failed seal.
Check liner and shelving
Run a hand around the inner plastic liner, especially the base and the corners near the crisper. Cracks there let moisture into the insulation and are hard to repair. Missing shelves, crisper covers and door bins are replaceable on current models and awkward to find on older ones.
Look for rust at base
Rust bubbling along the bottom edge or around the hinge usually means water sat there for a long time. Surface rust on the skin is cosmetic. Rust that has gone through near the compressor bay means the cabinet was kept somewhere damp and the structure is going.
