Used Dawlance refrigerators & freezers in Islamabad & Rawalpindi
Is a used Dawlance refrigerators & freezer worth buying?
Dawlance has built refrigerators in Pakistan since the 1980s and has been owned by Turkey's Arçelik since 2016, which is the fact that matters most when buying used: cabinets from either side of that change are different design generations. The older ones are the machines the independent trade has worked on for decades; newer platforms lean more on the company's own service points.
Made or assembled in Pakistan
Spares are widely stocked locally and most technicians in the twin cities have worked on these, so common faults are usually economic to repair.
Dawlance spares are the easiest in this category to obtain across Islamabad and Rawalpindi: gaskets, thermostats, relays, bins and shelves move through the company's service points and the independent trade alike, and pattern versions of the common items exist as well. Inverter control boards are the routine exception, ordered against the number.

Checking a used Dawlance refrigerators & freezer
These are specific to Dawlance. The general refrigerators & freezers checks apply too and are on the refrigerators & freezers page.
Read the number first
Dawlance identifies a cabinet by a numeric code with a WB-style suffix on the inside sticker, and Chrome, Signature and Avante are trim names sitting above that number. Gaskets, bins and shelves are ordered against the number, and two fridges wearing different trim names can share one.
Date it against Arçelik
Ask when it was bought and check the sticker, because Dawlance passed to Arçelik in 2016. The older Pakistani-designed cabinets are the ones every neighbourhood technician has opened before, while the newer platforms are more often handled through the company's own service points.
Spot pattern replacement parts
Dawlance is common enough here that the independent trade carries pattern parts alongside originals, which no smaller brand supports. Look at how the gasket sits in the corners and at the labels on the thermostat and relay — a pattern gasket forced into place usually means the door has already been fought with.
Ask who changed the board
On inverter models the control board is the part that decides how the compressor is driven. If it has been replaced, ask whether it came through the company's service channel or off the spares market, because a substituted board is not something you can assess by listening.
What Dawlance refrigerators & freezers are worth
- Volume is what holds a Dawlance up: the same numeric codes sold for years, so a technician can quote the repair before opening the cabinet, and a machine that can be quoted sells faster than one that cannot.
- Pre-Arçelik cabinets keep a floor under them because the independent trade knows those designs inside out, while the newest platforms are more often company-serviced, which shows up as a narrower set of people willing to take the job on.
- An inverter cabinet still running its original board holds better than one carrying an unexplained replacement, because that board is the single item a buyer cannot check by ear.

General refrigerators & freezers checks
These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the refrigerators & freezers page covers them in full.
Do the door seal test
Close the door on a banknote and pull it out. The seal should grip along every edge, corners included. Anywhere the note slides free, the gasket has hardened or the door has dropped, and the compressor will run far longer than it should to hold temperature.
Listen to the compressor cycle
A healthy compressor starts with a quiet click from the relay and settles into a steady low hum. Clicking every few minutes without the hum settling means the relay or overload protector is tripping, and a loud metallic rattle from the compressor body itself is a sealed-system fault.
Feel the back panel
Once the unit has run for a while, the condenser at the back or along the sides of the cabinet should be warm, because that is the heat being pushed out of the box. A fridge that runs constantly yet stays cool all over has usually lost its gas.
Read the frost pattern
On a no-frost model, heavy ice on the rear panel or a solid block over the fan means the defrost heater or its timer has failed. On a direct-cool model some frost is normal, but ice thick enough to trap the shelves points to a door left ajar or a failed seal.
Check liner and shelving
Run a hand around the inner plastic liner, especially the base and the corners near the crisper. Cracks there let moisture into the insulation and are hard to repair. Missing shelves, crisper covers and door bins are replaceable on current models and awkward to find on older ones.
Look for rust at base
Rust bubbling along the bottom edge or around the hinge usually means water sat there for a long time. Surface rust on the skin is cosmetic. Rust that has gone through near the compressor bay means the cabinet was kept somewhere damp and the structure is going.
