Used PEL kitchen appliances in Islamabad & Rawalpindi
Is a used PEL kitchen appliance worth buying?
PEL is a Lahore engineering company whose appliance division is built around refrigeration and cooling; the kitchen products — built-in glass hobs, chimney hoods, built-in ovens and microwaves — are a much smaller line beside them. Second-hand, hobs and hoods dominate, because they come out of kitchens during renovation rather than because anything failed, and they arrive without the parts that held them in.
Made or assembled in Pakistan
Spares are widely stocked locally and most technicians in the twin cities have worked on these, so common faults are usually economic to repair.
PEL's franchise service points in both cities quote kitchen spares against the model number, while general gas-appliance shops in Rawalpindi cover the commons — electrodes, ignition modules, gas valves, knobs and thermostats. Glass tops, hood motor assemblies and model-cut filters are ordered in, so carry the number rather than the broken part.

Checking a used PEL kitchen appliance
These are specific to PEL. The general kitchen appliances checks apply too and are on the kitchen appliances page.
Read the underside plate
On a PEL built-in the plate sits on the underside or the back, so it can only be read once the unit is out of the counter. Spares are quoted against that number at PEL's franchise service points, and a hob whose number is unreadable cannot be quoted for a glass top at all.
Ask for the fixing clips
A built-in hob is held down by clips and sealed to the worktop with a foam strip, both supplied with a new unit rather than sold loose, which is why they go missing when a kitchen is stripped. Without them the next installation comes down to silicone and improvisation.
Ask which gas it ran
Hobs are supplied jetted for natural gas with a second injector set for cylinder LPG in the box. If the kitchen it came from ran on cylinders the injectors were changed and the original set is usually long gone, so settle this before planning the installation.
Check the non-return flap
A chimney hood vents through a spigot with a light flap that stops kitchen air coming back down. Confirm the flap is present and swings freely, and find out whether the hood was ducted outside or recirculating, because a recirculating one needs charcoal filters that are consumables matched to the model.
Count caps and pan supports
Burner caps, crowns and cast pan supports are a matched set on a hob rather than interchangeable pieces. A cap borrowed from another model sits proud, spoils the flame pattern and scorches the glass around the cut-out.
What PEL kitchen appliances are worth
- The commons stay cheap because PEL's dealer reach is real, but the kitchen line is small beside its refrigeration and cooling, so parts depth is thinner than a PEL fridge would lead you to expect and model-matched items become franchise orders.
- Fitting hardware carries more of the value than buyers expect, since clips, gaskets, injector sets, ducting and filters all ship with a new unit and almost never travel with a used one.
- Glass tops and hood motor assemblies are the two items ordered rather than stocked, so damage to either drops a unit to For Parts / Repair instead of costing it one grade.

General kitchen appliances checks
These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the kitchen appliances page covers them in full.
Heat a cup of water
Put a mug of water in the microwave and run it for a minute. Properly hot water means the magnetron is still doing its job. Lukewarm water after a full minute, with the turntable turning and the lamp lit as normal, is a dying magnetron rather than a settings problem.
Check the microwave door
Look at the three door latches, the flat face where the door meets the cavity, and the small mica panel on the side wall. A door that does not close square, or a mica cover burnt through and arcing, is a safety matter and not something to negotiate down on.
Run a blender under load
Empty motors always sound fine. Fit the jar, add water and run it: a bearing on its way out whines, and a worn drive coupling slips or rattles. Then check the blade collar for seepage, because a jar that weeps at the base cannot be fixed without the correct seal.
Light every burner
Each burner on a hob or cooker should light from its own ignition, hold a steady blue flame and not lift off the cap. Yellow, uneven flames usually mean blocked ports, which clean up. A burner that stays alight only while the knob is held has a failed thermocouple.
Look inside the oven cavity
Switch the oven on and confirm the elements glow evenly top and bottom, then check the door glass, the hinges and the seal. A sagging door lets heat escape and is what makes an old oven cook unevenly. Heavy flaking of the enamel inside is difficult to make presentable again.
Count the attachments
Small appliances lose value fastest through missing parts. Check for the correct jars and lids, the chopping and kneading blades, the pusher, and any trays or racks. On discontinued models these are hard to source separately, so an incomplete set is worth less than the same appliance complete.
