Used Gaba National kitchen appliances in Islamabad & Rawalpindi

Is a used Gaba National kitchen appliance worth buying?

Gaba National is a Pakistani manufacturer whose kitchen line runs heavily to built-in fittings — glass hobs, cooker hoods and built-in ovens — as well as freestanding ranges. That matters second-hand, because a built-in appliance comes out of somebody's worktop during a refit and only goes into yours if the aperture matches. Buy on fitment and on the glass first, mechanics second.

Made or assembled in Pakistan

Spares are widely stocked locally and most technicians in the twin cities have worked on these, so common faults are usually economic to repair.

Burners, brass crowns, knobs, thermocouples, spark electrodes and hood motors are ordinary trade-counter items in both cities, and most interchange across locally made hobs rather than being brand-only. The exceptions are the toughened glass top, matched hood filters and built-in oven door glass, which come through the manufacturer's own dealers.

Checking a used Gaba National kitchen appliance

These are specific to Gaba National. The general kitchen appliances checks apply too and are on the kitchen appliances page.

Measure the worktop cut-out

A built-in Gaba National hob is sold by its aperture, not by its badge, so bring the length and width of the hole you need to fill and the depth of the cabinet under it. A hob that will not sit down onto the worktop cannot be made to.

Hold each burner knob in

Hobs fitted with a flame-failure device need the knob held down while the thermocouple tip heats. If a burner dies the moment you let go, the thermocouple has aged — a generic part any gas technician stocks, but also the fault a seller will describe as needing adjustment.

Sight along the glass edge

Toughened hob glass fails from an edge chip, and chips happen when a hob is prised out of a worktop during a strip-out. Look along the rim and around the burner cut-outs in raking light; the glass top is matched to the model and cannot be repaired.

Run the hood on high

Check the baffle or mesh filters are present and that the motor still pulls on its top speed with the filters fitted. Filters are sized to the hood body and are the piece most often left behind in the old kitchen.

Look for the fixing kit

Built-in hobs and ovens sit on clips and brackets, with a gas tail and an ignition harness. Anything still screwed into the previous kitchen becomes your problem, and these come with the appliance rather than off a shelf.

What Gaba National kitchen appliances are worth

  • Fitment sets the buyer pool: a hob or built-in oven in a common aperture size suits anyone refitting a kitchen, while an odd size waits for a matching hole.
  • A chipped glass top caps the grade whatever the burners do, because toughened glass cannot be repaired and the top is matched to the model.
  • Missing clips, filters, caps and gas tails drag an offer down out of proportion to their cost, since they are supplied with the appliance rather than stocked as generic spares.
  • Freestanding Gaba National ranges hold value more steadily than the built-in pieces, because they need no aperture and any buyer can simply take one away.

General kitchen appliances checks

These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the kitchen appliances page covers them in full.

Heat a cup of water

Put a mug of water in the microwave and run it for a minute. Properly hot water means the magnetron is still doing its job. Lukewarm water after a full minute, with the turntable turning and the lamp lit as normal, is a dying magnetron rather than a settings problem.

Check the microwave door

Look at the three door latches, the flat face where the door meets the cavity, and the small mica panel on the side wall. A door that does not close square, or a mica cover burnt through and arcing, is a safety matter and not something to negotiate down on.

Run a blender under load

Empty motors always sound fine. Fit the jar, add water and run it: a bearing on its way out whines, and a worn drive coupling slips or rattles. Then check the blade collar for seepage, because a jar that weeps at the base cannot be fixed without the correct seal.

Light every burner

Each burner on a hob or cooker should light from its own ignition, hold a steady blue flame and not lift off the cap. Yellow, uneven flames usually mean blocked ports, which clean up. A burner that stays alight only while the knob is held has a failed thermocouple.

Look inside the oven cavity

Switch the oven on and confirm the elements glow evenly top and bottom, then check the door glass, the hinges and the seal. A sagging door lets heat escape and is what makes an old oven cook unevenly. Heavy flaking of the enamel inside is difficult to make presentable again.

Count the attachments

Small appliances lose value fastest through missing parts. Check for the correct jars and lids, the chopping and kneading blades, the pusher, and any trays or racks. On discontinued models these are hard to source separately, so an incomplete set is worth less than the same appliance complete.

Gaba National kitchen appliances — questions

Will a used Gaba National hob fit my existing kitchen cut-out?

Only if the aperture matches. Built-in hobs are made to a cut-out size, so measure the length, width and the depth of the cabinet below before you look at anything else. A slightly smaller hob cannot be packed out neatly, and enlarging a granite or quartz worktop is a stone-cutting job. Take the measurements with you, and check the gas tail and fixing clips are included.

Why does the burner on my Gaba National hob go out when I release the knob?

That is the flame-failure device refusing to hold. The knob has to be held in while the thermocouple tip heats in the flame and generates enough current to keep the gas valve open; a tired thermocouple, or one sitting out of the flame, never gets there. Both are generic parts any gas technician can fit. Test every burner, since they age together.
