Used Anex kitchen appliances in Islamabad & Rawalpindi

Is a used Anex kitchen appliance worth buying?

Anex is a Pakistani-marketed brand covering the cheap end of nearly every kitchen job — AG- coded juicer blender sets, kettles, deep and air fryers, sandwich makers, choppers and hand mixers. Second-hand it is the heat appliances that need the harder look, because on those the failure is not a motor but a thermostat, a cut-out or a coating, and one of the three is a safety matter.

Made or assembled in Pakistan

Spares are widely stocked locally and most technicians in the twin cities have worked on these, so common faults are usually economic to repair.

Elements, thermostats, cut-outs, leads and jar seals for the common AG- models are ordinary bazaar stock in both cities and are matched by the code on the base. Moulded parts — non-stick plates, kettle bodies, lids for the less common models — are a matching exercise, and rewinding a small motor rarely makes sense against simply buying another unit.

Checking a used Anex kitchen appliance

These are specific to Anex. The general kitchen appliances checks apply too and are on the kitchen appliances page.

Confirm it is genuine

Copies of the popular AG- models circulate in the bazaars. Compare the code moulded into the base with the one printed on the rating label, look at whether the badge and label text are crisply printed or blurred, and ask whether the distributor's warranty card or the box survived.

Trip the kettle cut-out

Fill an Anex kettle, boil it and watch that it switches itself off. The bi-metal steam switch and the lid seal are what fail on these, and a kettle that has to be unplugged to stop is not a working appliance however sound the rest of it looks.

Work the fryer thermostat

On a deep fryer or air fryer, turn the thermostat through its range and listen for it cycling in and out rather than sitting on permanently. Then look at the element, and on models with a detachable control head check whether the contacts are oil-caked or corroded.

Inspect the non-stick plates

Sandwich makers and contact grills are graded on their coating and their hinge. Flaking plates are not replaced in practice at this level, and a hinge that no longer closes flat leaves the top plate touching at one corner only.

Flex the cord entry

Move the lead where it enters the body while the appliance is running. A unit that cuts in and out, or a lead stiffened or taped at the entry, has a broken flex at the strain relief — cheap to put right, but a burn risk if it is left.

What Anex kitchen appliances are worth

  • Authenticity sets the floor, because copies carry the same AG- code on the base; a unit that can be shown to be genuine, ideally with the distributor's warranty card, holds value an unverifiable one does not.
  • Safety parts rather than cosmetics decide the grade on the heat appliances: a kettle whose cut-out no longer trips, or a fryer with a dead thermostat, is For Parts / Repair however clean it looks.
  • Coated surfaces are terminal and metal ones are not, so a sandwich maker with flaking plates is finished while a kettle with a scaled element can be descaled and sold on.

General kitchen appliances checks

These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the kitchen appliances page covers them in full.

Heat a cup of water

Put a mug of water in the microwave and run it for a minute. Properly hot water means the magnetron is still doing its job. Lukewarm water after a full minute, with the turntable turning and the lamp lit as normal, is a dying magnetron rather than a settings problem.

Check the microwave door

Look at the three door latches, the flat face where the door meets the cavity, and the small mica panel on the side wall. A door that does not close square, or a mica cover burnt through and arcing, is a safety matter and not something to negotiate down on.

Run a blender under load

Empty motors always sound fine. Fit the jar, add water and run it: a bearing on its way out whines, and a worn drive coupling slips or rattles. Then check the blade collar for seepage, because a jar that weeps at the base cannot be fixed without the correct seal.

Light every burner

Each burner on a hob or cooker should light from its own ignition, hold a steady blue flame and not lift off the cap. Yellow, uneven flames usually mean blocked ports, which clean up. A burner that stays alight only while the knob is held has a failed thermocouple.

Look inside the oven cavity

Switch the oven on and confirm the elements glow evenly top and bottom, then check the door glass, the hinges and the seal. A sagging door lets heat escape and is what makes an old oven cook unevenly. Heavy flaking of the enamel inside is difficult to make presentable again.

Count the attachments

Small appliances lose value fastest through missing parts. Check for the correct jars and lids, the chopping and kneading blades, the pusher, and any trays or racks. On discontinued models these are hard to source separately, so an incomplete set is worth less than the same appliance complete.

Anex kitchen appliances — questions

How do I know a used Anex appliance is genuine?

Look at the base first. Compare the code moulded into the plastic with the one printed on the rating label; they should agree. Check the badge and the label text are crisply printed rather than blurred, and that the mains lead carries proper markings. Copies of the popular AG- models circulate, so ask for the distributor's warranty card or the box if either survived.

Is a used Anex kettle or fryer safe to buy?

Only if the cut-out works. Fill an Anex kettle, boil it and watch that it clicks off by itself; one that has to be unplugged has a failed bi-metal switch. On a fryer, run the thermostat through its range and listen for it cycling, then check the lead where it enters the body. Elements and thermostats are cheap and stocked locally, so such a fault is fixable rather than final.
