Used Furniture Hub home furniture in Islamabad & Rawalpindi

Is a used Furniture Hub home furniture worth buying?

Furniture Hub manufactures for its own showrooms, so its wardrobes, dressing tables and dining sets are built to sizes people here actually use, in board with laminate or veneer faces. Second-hand that means a piece fits a normal Islamabad flat without modification, and the parts that wear, meaning hinges, runners and handles, are the standard ones.

Made or assembled in Pakistan

Spares are widely stocked locally and most technicians in the twin cities have worked on these, so common faults are usually economic to repair.

Manufacture and showrooms are both local, so hinges, runners, handles, legs and mirror clips are all Rawalpindi hardware-market items and a carpenter can fit them the same day. Cut-to-size internals such as a shelf, a drawer box or a replacement door mean going back to the showroom or having them made.

Checking a used Furniture Hub home furniture

These are specific to Furniture Hub. The general home furniture checks apply too and are on the home furniture page.

Check the wardrobe is square

Close both doors and look at the gap between them from top to bottom. A gap that tapers means the carcass has racked in a previous move, usually because the back panel worked loose.

Count shelves and rails

Internal shelves, hanging rails and drawer boxes are cut to the model. They go missing during moves more often than they break, and replacing them means having new ones cut to size.

Look behind the unit

The thin back panel is stapled on and it is what holds the carcass square. Loose or torn backing is a cheap fix but a clear sign the piece has been shifted while loaded.

Inspect the mirror fixings

Dressing table mirrors are bolted through a board upright. Check for cracks radiating from the fixing holes and for silvering loss at the mirror edge, which spreads and cannot be repaired.

What Furniture Hub home furniture are worth

  • Local manufacture and standard fittings keep repair cheap, so wear on hinges, runners and handles hardly moves the grade.
  • Set-based ranges mean a matched bedroom or dining group is worth more together than the same pieces sold apart, because a buyer cannot complete the group later.
  • Board carcasses lose grade to moving damage rather than to age, so a piece that has stayed in one house is in a different condition from an identical one shifted twice.

General home furniture checks

These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the home furniture page covers them in full.

Find the unfinished edge

Pull a drawer right out and look at the raw edge of its side, or check the underside of a table top. Continuous grain running from the face through to the edge means solid timber; a pressed, speckled core under a printed foil means board, which rarely survives being taken apart and moved a second time.

Tap the legs for termite

Knock along the bottom few inches of every leg and across the back panel, and look at the floor underneath for fine powder. Solid taps and a clean floor are what you want; a hollow note, mud tunnelling, or small pinholes mean termite, and the infestation travels into your house with the piece.

Work every drawer and door

Open and close each drawer and door through its full travel. A drawer should run without the whole carcass lifting and a door should sit flush with an even gap; a door that droops at its outer corner usually means the hinge screws have torn out of board and need dowelling before they will hold again.

Push it diagonally

Stand at one corner and push the piece gently across its diagonal. A sound wardrobe or table barely moves; visible racking, a creak, or a gap opening at a joint means the mortise-and-tenon work has loosened or the knock-down bolts have stretched their holes.

Rake light across the top

Crouch so a light skims across the top surface instead of shining straight down on it. Faint scratches and dull patches polish out; white heat rings, swollen edges and veneer lifting at the corners are water damage and they stay.

Measure the piece and route

Take height, width and depth, then measure your stairwell turn, lift car and door frames before agreeing anything. Ask whether the piece dismantles and whether its bolts, cam locks and shelf pins are still with it, because a fixed-frame wardrobe that cannot make the turn is worth nothing to you.

Furniture Hub home furniture — questions

Is Furniture Hub furniture easy to repair in Rawalpindi?

Yes, for the parts that wear. It is made in Pakistan on standard fittings, so hinges, runners, handles and mirror clips come from the local hardware market and a carpenter fits them without ordering anything. Cut-to-size parts such as a shelf, a drawer box or a replacement door are made to sample instead.

Should I buy a Furniture Hub wardrobe on its own?

You can, but check it is square first: close both doors and look at the gap along their length. A tapering gap means the carcass racked in an earlier move, usually because the stapled back panel loosened. Also confirm the shelves and hanging rail are included, since those are cut to the model and often left behind.
