Used Interwood sofas & living room in Islamabad & Rawalpindi
Is a used Interwood sofas & living room worth buying?
Interwood builds at factory scale in Pakistan and sells living-room pieces as collections — seating with a matching centre table and console in one finish — with recliner and motion models alongside fixed ones. Second-hand, two things decide the grade: whether the covering is leather all round or leather only where you sit, and whether the motion hardware under the seat still works on both sides.
Made or assembled in Pakistan
Spares are widely stocked locally and most technicians in the twin cities have worked on these, so common faults are usually economic to repair.
Interwood manufactures in Pakistan and keeps showrooms in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, so foam, webbing and re-upholstery are ordinary local work with no wait attached. The parts that are not local are the ones matched to a model: the motion hardware under a recliner seat, identified by the stamp on the mechanism rather than the Interwood label, and the original covering, which is a showroom finish code rather than a bazaar roll.

Checking a used Interwood sofas & living room
These are specific to Interwood. The general sofas & living room checks apply too and are on the sofas & living room page.
Find the label and code
Look under the seat frame or behind the back panel for the Interwood label. It carries a code a showroom in either city can trace back to the collection and the original covering, and that trace is what separates the piece from a workshop copy of the same design.
Check the covering all round
Press the outer back and outer arms and compare them with the surface you actually sit on. Leatherette lifts away from its backing and cannot be fed or polished back, so peeling on an outer arm of a set sold as leather means a full re-cover rather than a clean-up.
Read the mechanism stamp
On recliner and motion seats the mechanism under the seat carries the hardware maker's own name and part number rather than Interwood's. Photograph that stamp and cycle both sides fully, because a supplier matches the part from the stamp and a side that no longer catches needs that exact part.
Look under the arm
Copies reproduce the outline and the fabric but rarely the frame. Reach under the arm and feel whether it is built on a rail carrying through into the seat frame or on a separate panel screwed to the side, which is where a lookalike usually gives itself away.
What Interwood sofas & living room are worth
- Because the designs are copied so widely here, a labelled Interwood set with a readable collection code holds its grade, while an identical-looking unlabelled piece is judged as generic local upholstery.
- Foam, webbing and fabric are all local trades, so cosmetic wear weighs lightly on the grade, whereas a seized motion mechanism weighs heavily because it is matched to that model rather than bought off a shelf.
- Leather and leatherette age in opposite directions: leather can be cleaned and fed, while leatherette lifts from its backing and takes the whole set to a re-cover, so the covering type sets the ceiling on the grade.
- Seating sold with its matching centre table and console keeps more grade than seating alone, since the case pieces were sprayed to the same finish and that finish cannot be matched afterwards.
General sofas & living room checks
These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the sofas & living room page covers them in full.
Sit in every seat
Sit down with your full weight in each seat position, including the middle of a three-seater and the corner of an L-shape. You should feel even support throughout; a hard bar or ridge under you, or a twang as you settle, means the webbing has torn or a serpentine spring has snapped beneath that seat.
Press and release the foam
Press a palm into the seat cushion and watch how fast it comes back. Good foam returns to shape as you lift your hand; foam that stays dented, or that shows yellow crumbling edges through the open zip, is spent and the set needs refilling before it is comfortable again.
Lift one end
Take hold of one arm and lift that end a few inches clear of the floor. A sound sofa comes up as a single rigid piece; if the far end lags, the frame flexes, or you hear a crack from the arm-to-base joint, the frame is loose and reaching it means stripping the upholstery off.
Smell the seat cushions
Put your face close to the seat deck and to a cushion and breathe in. Neutral or faintly dusty is fine; cigarette smoke, damp, or pet urine has gone into the foam rather than the cover, and no amount of surface cleaning removes a smell that lives in the filling.
Unzip a cushion cover
Open a cushion zip and run a torch along the piping, the staple line, and the seams under the seat deck. Clean fabric and tight stitching are what you want; dark specks, shed skins, or insects in the folds mean an infestation, and the reverse of the fabric will also show whether rexine is cracking from behind.
Work the recliner mechanism
If the set has recliners, a sofa-cum-bed frame, or storage under the seat, run each one through its full travel several times. It should latch firmly at every stop and move evenly on both sides; a jolt, a jam, or one side lagging means a bent mechanism, and spare parts for imported units are usually not available here.
