Used Habitt sofas & living room in Islamabad & Rawalpindi
Is a used Habitt sofas & living room worth buying?
Habitt is the Karachi-based home retailer of the House of Habib group, and it sells by seasonal collection rather than by permanent range: seating, cushions, rugs and lamps designed to go together and then discontinued. That is the fact to hold on to second-hand. The piece in front of you is contemporary, cut to flat-sized proportions and made here, but nothing matching it is still in production.
Made or assembled in Pakistan
Spares are widely stocked locally and most technicians in the twin cities have worked on these, so common faults are usually economic to repair.
Habitt manufactures in Pakistan and sells through its own stores, so foam, webbing and re-upholstery are local trades and legs, threaded plates and screws come from any hardware market. What nobody can supply is the collection fabric itself: once a season has ended, a matching cushion or a like-for-like re-cover is not available, and an upholsterer will get close rather than exact.

Checking a used Habitt sofas & living room
These are specific to Habitt. The general sofas & living room checks apply too and are on the sofas & living room page.
Identify the collection
Habitt sells in seasons, so the sticker or sewn label under the seat is what places the piece in one. Without it you cannot find out what else belonged to the set, and a store can only say whether the fabric survives if you can name the collection.
Unscrew one leg
Contemporary retail seating normally stands on legs screwed into a threaded plate set into the base. Take one out and look at the thread, because a stripped plate is the common fault and a hardware-shop leg of a different length changes both the seat height and the rake of the back.
Press down on the arms
Lighter contemporary frames carry the arm on a panel rather than a solid rail. Push down hard on the top of each arm and then outward; flex there means the panel is working loose from the seat frame, which is an upholsterer's job with the cover off rather than a screw to tighten.
Rub the arm tops
Loosely woven, light-coloured fabrics run right through these collections and they hold hand and hair marks along the arm tops and the top edge of the back. Rub a thumb across those areas: greying that does not lift is a re-cover, and the original weave is no longer made.
What Habitt sofas & living room are worth
- Seasonal collections are the whole story for value here, because nothing can be added to a Habitt set after its season, so a complete set holds its grade while a split one cannot be rebuilt by any buyer.
- The proportions are cut for flats, which keeps demand steady across Islamabad's apartment stock but narrows it in houses furnished in the older drawing-room format.
- Fabric sets the ceiling: a light or loosely woven cover that has greyed at the arms takes the piece to a re-cover, and a re-cover replaces the collection fabric with whatever an upholsterer can source.
General sofas & living room checks
These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the sofas & living room page covers them in full.
Sit in every seat
Sit down with your full weight in each seat position, including the middle of a three-seater and the corner of an L-shape. You should feel even support throughout; a hard bar or ridge under you, or a twang as you settle, means the webbing has torn or a serpentine spring has snapped beneath that seat.
Press and release the foam
Press a palm into the seat cushion and watch how fast it comes back. Good foam returns to shape as you lift your hand; foam that stays dented, or that shows yellow crumbling edges through the open zip, is spent and the set needs refilling before it is comfortable again.
Lift one end
Take hold of one arm and lift that end a few inches clear of the floor. A sound sofa comes up as a single rigid piece; if the far end lags, the frame flexes, or you hear a crack from the arm-to-base joint, the frame is loose and reaching it means stripping the upholstery off.
Smell the seat cushions
Put your face close to the seat deck and to a cushion and breathe in. Neutral or faintly dusty is fine; cigarette smoke, damp, or pet urine has gone into the foam rather than the cover, and no amount of surface cleaning removes a smell that lives in the filling.
Unzip a cushion cover
Open a cushion zip and run a torch along the piping, the staple line, and the seams under the seat deck. Clean fabric and tight stitching are what you want; dark specks, shed skins, or insects in the folds mean an infestation, and the reverse of the fabric will also show whether rexine is cracking from behind.
Work the recliner mechanism
If the set has recliners, a sofa-cum-bed frame, or storage under the seat, run each one through its full travel several times. It should latch firmly at every stop and move evenly on both sides; a jolt, a jam, or one side lagging means a bent mechanism, and spare parts for imported units are usually not available here.
