Used Ricoh printers, scanners & copiers in Islamabad & Rawalpindi

Is a used Ricoh printers, scanners & copier worth buying?

Ricoh machines in this market are overwhelmingly ex-corporate multifunction copiers rather than desktop printers — the floor-standing MP series that sat in a bank or a government office. They are built for very high monthly volumes, which is why a used one can have run enormous page counts and still work. They are imported, heavy, and require a technician rather than an owner to maintain, so buy with that in mind.

Imported

Parts usually have to be imported or sourced from the grey market, so a repair takes longer and costs more — which matters more on an older unit than the build quality does.

Ricoh is imported and served through specialist copier dealers in Islamabad rather than the general computer market. Toner, drums and maintenance kits are ordered through those dealers, which works but takes longer and costs more than a mainstream desktop laser's consumables.

Checking a used Ricoh printers, scanners & copier

These are specific to Ricoh. The general printers, scanners & copiers checks apply too and are on the printers, scanners & copiers page.

Read the meter counter

Every Ricoh MFP holds a total counter, usually accessible from the counter key or user tools. On these machines the meter is the whole story — it drives what maintenance kits are due.

Ask which maintenance kit is due

Ricoh schedules fuser, transfer and feed unit replacement at fixed page intervals. Establish where the meter sits relative to the next kit, since a kit that falls due immediately is a substantial cost.

Copy a full colour page from the glass

On a colour MPC model, copy a photo from the platen and check for banding or colour drift. Developer unit wear on high-count machines shows here first.

Test the finisher and ADF

If it has a stapling finisher or a duplexing ADF, run both. These attachments jam as their rollers wear and their spares are ordered rather than stocked.

Confirm toner code availability

Ricoh toner is coded by model and is not interchangeable across the range. Note the exact toner code and confirm a local supplier stocks it, since these are not shelf items in the general computer markets.

What Ricoh printers, scanners & copiers are worth

  • A low meter reading relative to the machine's rated duty holds value well, since the maintenance schedule is measured in pages rather than years.
  • An imminently due maintenance kit reduces value directly, because the next owner must pay for it before the machine is dependable.
  • The narrow buyer pool — offices and print shops rather than home users — means these move slowly regardless of condition.

General printers, scanners & copiers checks

These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the printers, scanners & copiers page covers them in full.

Print the panel self-test

Every printer can print a test or configuration page from its own buttons, without a computer or a driver in the way. That single page tells you whether the engine, the head or drum, and the paper feed all work. Banding, a missing colour, or a page that comes out blank narrows the fault down before you have installed anything.

Rub a solid black page

Print a page with a solid dark area and run your thumb across it once it is out. Toner that smudges or lifts means the fuser is not reaching temperature, which is a heating element or sleeve job. Marks that repeat down the page at the same regular spacing come from a damaged roller or drum, and the spacing tells a technician which one.

Read the meter counters

The configuration page carries the total pages the machine has put through and, on most lasers and copiers, how much drum and toner life is reported left. Weigh that against what the model was built for: a high count on an office copier designed for volume is less worrying than a modest count on a small home printer.

Look for ink-tank conversions

Factory ink-tank machines have bottles designed into the body. An aftermarket tank glued to a cartridge printer, with tubes taped along the case, is a conversion, and the tubes kink, air gets in and the head starves. Ask for the printer to be run in front of you before you decide, and pull a cartridge to see whether it has been drilled and refilled.

Scan white and feed pages

Scan one plain white A4 page and open the result full size. A thin line running the whole length of the scan is dirt or a scratch on the glass strip, or a mark on the scan bar. Then put five or six sheets through the document feeder: skewed pages, two sheets pulled at once, or a jam every time means the pick-up rollers are worn flat.

Check consumables and drivers exist

Note the exact cartridge or toner code from the machine and confirm it is still stocked locally, and check the manufacturer lists a driver for the operating system you actually run. A tidy printer whose consumable has been discontinued, or that only ever had drivers for an operating system two generations old, is a shelf ornament.

Ricoh printers, scanners & copiers — questions

Is a used Ricoh copier a sensible buy for a small office?

Only if your monthly volume genuinely justifies it. These are high-duty machines built for corporate print rooms, and they are maintained on a page-count schedule by a technician rather than by the owner. Read the total meter and establish which maintenance kit falls due next. For light printing, a desktop laser is a far simpler proposition; the Ricoh's advantages only appear at volume.

Where do I get toner for a used Ricoh in Islamabad?

Through specialist copier dealers rather than the general computer markets. Ricoh toner is coded to specific model families and is not interchangeable, so note the exact code from the cartridge in the machine and confirm a supplier before buying. This is the main practical difference from an HP LaserJet, where compatible toner is available on any street with a computer shop.
