Used Asus laptops & computers in Islamabad & Rawalpindi

Is a used Asus laptops & computer worth buying?

Asus covers everything from thin VivoBook and ZenBook machines to ROG and TUF gaming laptops, and the two ends need opposite checks. Thin models are judged on the hinge, the soldered memory and battery health. Gaming models are judged on cooling and on whether anyone has opened them. The model code on the base identifies which build you have.

Imported

Parts usually have to be imported or sourced from the grey market, so a repair takes longer and costs more — which matters more on an older unit than the build quality does.

Asus laptops are imported and lack the fleet volume that keeps business Dell and HP parts circulating here, so screens, keyboards and batteries generally come through the refurbished trade from stripped machines. Gaming chargers and high-refresh panels are the slow items, while ordinary keyboards and fans are usually obtainable.

Checking a used Asus laptops & computer

These are specific to Asus. The general laptops & computers checks apply too and are on the laptops & computers page.

Read the full model code

Asus reuses family names across many builds, and the code on the base, an X, FX or UX number, is what screen, battery and keyboard parts are matched against. Quote that rather than the family name.

Ask about any repaste

Some ROG models left the factory with liquid-metal compound on the processor. A shop that has opened one and used ordinary paste, or worse spilled the metal onto nearby components, changes both the temperatures and the risk, so ask what was done and when.

Check the lift hinge

Several VivoBook and ZenBook designs use a hinge that lifts the rear of the body off the desk as the lid opens. Look at the rubber strip and the lid's rear edge for wear, and check the body still lifts evenly rather than resting on one corner.

Load-test the cooling

Run a sustained load for fifteen minutes with a temperature monitor open. Gaming chassis here rely on clean fins and fresh compound, so a machine that throttles quickly is telling you service is due before it is worth buying.

What Asus laptops & computers are worth

  • Documented servicing on gaming models supports the grade, because the buyer's main risk is thermal condition rather than cosmetic wear.
  • Soldered memory on the thin lines caps upgrades, so a machine that shipped with generous memory holds value better than an identical one that did not.
  • Model-matched chargers are a real factor on gaming units, since high-wattage bricks are imported and not interchangeable.
  • A high-refresh gaming panel is a value item in itself, and a replacement screen of lower specification pulls the machine down.

General laptops & computers checks

These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the laptops & computers page covers them in full.

Pull the battery report

On Windows, run powercfg /batteryreport from a command prompt and compare design capacity against full charge capacity; on a Mac, check cycle count and battery condition in System Information. A wide gap means an hour or less away from the charger, and on many models the pack is a simple swap while on others it is glued in.

Work the hinges and lid

Open and close the lid slowly several times while watching where the hinge meets the palm rest and the screen bezel. Creaking, a bezel lifting at the corner, or a hinge that stiffens at one end means the plastic mounts underneath are cracking, which worsens with use and is awkward to repair properly.

View a plain white screen

Full white shows dead and stuck pixels, patchy backlight and yellowing; full black shows bleed and pressure marks. Flex the lid gently and watch for flicker or a colour shift, which points at a display cable chafing where it passes through the hinge.

Read the drive's health

CrystalDiskInfo, or the SMART data in the firmware settings, gives this in a minute. On a hard disk, reallocated or pending sectors mean it is on the way out; on an SSD, look at percentage used and total data written. Also confirm whether it is a mechanical disk at all, since that alone makes an otherwise capable machine feel unusable.

Type through every key

Open a text box and press every key, including the number pad and the function row, then click both bottom corners of the trackpad. Keyboards are model-specific, and one dead key usually means replacing the whole assembly, which on many laptops sits under the entire top cover.

Check for passwords and locks

Restart into the BIOS or firmware settings and confirm nothing asks for a supervisor password, and on a Mac confirm the machine is signed out and not activation-locked. Neither can be cleared by ordinary repair, so a locked machine is a parts machine whatever its specification says.

Asus laptops & computers — questions

What should I check on a used Asus ROG or TUF laptop?

Thermal condition first. Run a sustained load for a quarter of an hour with a temperature monitor open and watch for early throttling, fan rattle or a scorching underside. Ask whether the machine has been opened and repasted, and with what, since some ROG models used liquid-metal compound from the factory. Then confirm the original high-wattage charger is included, as these are not interchangeable.

Can memory be upgraded on a used Asus ZenBook or VivoBook?

Often not, and it should be checked before buying rather than after. Thin Asus models frequently have memory soldered to the mainboard, sometimes with a single spare slot and sometimes with none at all. The full model code on the base tells you which arrangement a particular machine has. A machine that shipped with generous memory is a better long-term buy than one you planned to upgrade.
