Used Habitt home decor & lighting in Islamabad & Rawalpindi
Is a used Habitt home decor & lighting worth buying?
Habitt sells furniture first; the lamps, mirrors and wall pieces exist to go with the furniture ranges, and much of that smaller stock is bought in rather than made. So a used Habitt lamp is a retailer's merchandised piece, sold complete and never as parts, which decides what can and cannot be put right afterwards. Buyers are usually furnishing a flat around pieces they already own.
Mixed — partly assembled locally
Parts availability depends on the model line: locally assembled ranges are straightforward, imported ones less so. Worth confirming before you count on a repair.
Because the decorative side is bought-in retail stock rather than manufacture, there is no spare-part channel behind it: whole pieces are sold, not shades, brackets or glass. The electrical fittings are conventional, so any electrician in Islamabad or Rawalpindi can rewire a lamp and a glazier can cut mirror glass to a template.
Checking a used Habitt home decor & lighting
These are specific to Habitt. The general home decor & lighting checks apply too and are on the home decor & lighting page.
Find the brand mark
Check the item itself carries a Habitt mark rather than taking the seller's word. Larger pieces usually do; small accessories often carry nothing, in which case you are buying an unbranded import and the name should not be adding anything to the price.
Look for article stickers
Stock is labelled with an article number on the underside or the back. If the sticker survived, showroom staff in the twin cities can say whether that range is still carried, which is the difference between a piece you can add to and a one-off.
Shades are never separate
Lamps are sold as a finished piece, base and shade together, so a shade that has been swapped or lost cannot be matched from the store later. Check it sits square on its fitter and that the fabric has not yellowed on the side facing the bulb.
Ask for the bracket
Mirrors and wall decor come with their own bracket or cleat sized to the piece. Without it, hanging a heavy mirror square becomes a carpenter's job, and improvised fixings are usually the reason one came off the wall in the first place.
Pair it with furniture
These accessories were drawn to sit with a particular furniture range. If the seller is also clearing the matching console, bed or table, the pieces are worth more taken together, so ask before settling on one item.
What Habitt home decor & lighting are worth
- Whole pieces are sold and components are not, so a missing shade, bracket or one panel of a wall set is a permanent loss rather than a repair.
- Showrooms in the twin cities let a buyer check whether a range is still carried, and a current range supports value because the piece can be added to while an ended one cannot.
- The electrical half is conventional — holder, switch, cable — so a lamp that will not light is a cheap fix and barely moves the price; the decorative half is what carries the value.
- Pieces sold with the furniture range they were designed for hold value better than the same pieces split apart, since the coordination is the whole appeal.
General home decor & lighting checks
These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the home decor & lighting page covers them in full.
Power every lamp holder
Switch the fitting on before agreeing anything, and nudge the shade while it is lit. Steady light from each holder is what you want; a flicker, a buzz, or a holder that only works when pressed points at perished wiring or a burnt holder inside the arm.
Count shades and crystals
Match what is there against what the fitting was made with. On a discontinued chandelier or a run of wall lights, one missing glass shade usually cannot be matched, and a substitute in a slightly different shape is visible from across the room.
Check sealed LED fittings
Integrated LED panels and strips cannot be re-lamped. Look along the lit surface for dark segments and uneven colour, and ask whether the driver box has ever been changed. A failed LED board makes the whole fitting scrap rather than a repair.
Look behind the mirror
Black or cloudy patches creeping in from the edges mean the silvering is going, and that cannot be repaired, only re-glazed. Check the frame corners for splits and confirm the hanging cleat or D-rings are still fitted and tight.
Push the lamp base
Stand a table or floor lamp on a level surface and give it a light push. A base that rocks and settles is properly weighted; one that goes over was built light and will keep falling. Then look at how the shade is meant to sit: a shade made for a harp and finial will not clip onto a bulb, so a mismatched pair leaves the lamp with no usable shade at all.
Hold curtains to daylight
Sun-rot shows as a pale, weakened strip along the leading edge and at the heading, and it tears when handled. Count the hooks, rings or eyelets, and turn rugs over to check for stiff, crumbling backing and a damp storeroom smell.
