Used Graco baby & kids items in Islamabad & Rawalpindi
Is a used Graco baby & kids item worth buying?
Graco is an imported American brand and its travel systems and playards turn over quickly here as families outgrow them. Frames are sturdy and the fold mechanisms are the wear point rather than the fabric. One practical note for Pakistan: Graco car seats are built around the US anchor system, and most cars on the road here have no anchor points, so belt routing is what matters.
Imported
Parts usually have to be imported or sourced from the grey market, so a repair takes longer and costs more — which matters more on an older unit than the build quality does.
Graco is imported with no depth of local service, so bases, harnesses, hub assemblies and canopy parts have to be matched from another used unit. Buy complete; a Graco missing a load-bearing part is generally an economic dead end.
Checking a used Graco baby & kids item
These are specific to Graco. The general baby & kids items checks apply too and are on the baby & kids items page.
Collapse and reopen a playard
Pack 'n Play-style playards fail at the centre hub and the rail locks. Fold and reopen it fully — rails that will not click straight, or a hub that needs forcing, are the common defect and are not repairable with local parts.
Confirm the base is present
A Graco infant carrier is designed to click into its own base. Without it the seat must be belted directly every time, which most owners get wrong, and the base cannot be bought separately here.
Check belt-routing markings
Look for the coloured belt path guides on the shell. Since most cars in Pakistan lack lower anchor points, those guides are the installation method the buyer will actually use, and they must be legible and unobstructed.
Run the harness through your fingers
Webbing frays where it passes the slots and the buckle. Graco harnesses are load-bearing and cannot be re-webbed locally, so fraying should be graded as a structural fault, not cosmetic.
What Graco baby & kids items are worth
- Complete travel systems hold value because the carrier, base and pram are matched by design and cannot be mixed with other brands.
- Playards hold value well relative to prams, since they fold small, travel, and have no fabric exposed to road dust.
- Missing bases and worn harness webbing pull value down hard, because neither can be sourced through a local retail channel.

General baby & kids items checks
These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the baby & kids items page covers them in full.
Fold and unfold the pram
Do it three times. The fold catch and the secondary safety latch should click home on their own, without coaxing, and the wheels should not wobble on their axles. Push it and apply the brake on a slope; a brake that creeps is a daily hazard, not a small fault.
Read the car seat labels
Most seats carry a manufacture date moulded into the shell and a label on the base, and the plastic and webbing age from that date whether the seat has been used or not. No legible label, or an unclear accident history, means the seat should not be fitted in a car at any grade.
Work the harness and buckle
Pull the five-point webbing through its adjuster and back. It should run freely, with no fraying where it passes through the shell slots. The buckle must release with a firm press and latch with a clear click; a sticky or gritty buckle is a fail, not a clean-up job.
Shake the cot frame
Press down hard on the base and rock the frame corner to corner. It should not rack or creak. Check that every bolt is present and is the original fitting rather than something from a hardware shop, and look along the top rails for teething damage and splinters.
Lift the cover off
Take the seat pad or mattress cover off and look and smell underneath. Fabric can be washed; foam that has taken milk, urine or damp cannot be brought back, and mould spotting on the underside of a mattress means the whole piece is done.
Open the battery compartment
On toys, bouncers and ride-ons, look for green or white crust on the contacts, which means a battery has leaked and the electronics may be corroded. Check the hatch screws are present, then tug wheels, eyes and small fittings to see that nothing works loose in the hand.
