Used Chicco baby & kids items in Islamabad & Rawalpindi
Is a used Chicco baby & kids item worth buying?
Chicco is Italian, made by Artsana, and reaches Pakistan through baby retailers and personal imports from several markets at once. That last part decides everything second-hand: Chicco names its infant carriers differently by region — KeyFit in the American range among them — and a carrier only locks onto the base and the frame built for it. Identify the model on the shell before judging condition.
Imported
Parts usually have to be imported or sourced from the grey market, so a repair takes longer and costs more — which matters more on an older unit than the build quality does.
Spares follow the market a unit came from: Chicco parts are imported and matched to the exact model moulded on the shell rather than to 'a Chicco', so a canopy, buckle or base is normally found by buying another used unit of the same model. An upholsterer can save fabric; nothing local replaces a base.
Checking a used Chicco baby & kids item
These are specific to Chicco. The general baby & kids items checks apply too and are on the baby & kids items page.
Match carrier to base
Chicco's infant carriers carry different names in different markets and each locks only to the base and frame sold for it. Read the model name moulded into the carrier shell and into the base, and confirm they are the same family before accepting a set as a system.
Click the carrier on
The Bravo is a travel-system frame and takes the matching Chicco carrier on the frame itself, whereas the Ohlalà is a lightweight umbrella-fold pushchair and is not a travel-system frame. Try the click and lift the pram by the carrier rather than taking the seller's word.
Read the approval label
Beyond the moulded manufacture and expiry dates, a car seat carries an approval label naming the standard and the country that approved it. On a Chicco that label tells you which market the seat came from, which is what decides whether its matching base can be found here at all.
Polly: count the trays
The Polly high chair uses a removable upper tray over the main tray, plus a clip-on padded cover and harness pads. None of the three is stocked in Pakistan, so a Polly missing its upper tray is a weaker buy than a scratched frame with everything present.
Ohlalà: work the fold
An umbrella-fold frame wears at the hinge joints and at the small swivel front wheels. A frame that will not stand once folded, or a swivel that locks straight ahead, usually means a bent tube — and a replacement tube for a Chicco is an import.
What Chicco baby & kids items are worth
- A carrier, its base and the frame it clicks into are worth more together than apart, because Chicco's regional naming means a stray carrier may never meet its base in this market.
- Polly high chairs are valued on their accessories — upper tray, cover, harness pads — since the frame outlasts all three and none can be replaced locally.
- The Ohlalà is bought for its fold and its weight, so a stiff or bent frame costs it more value than tired fabric would, while a Bravo bought as a system is judged the other way round.

General baby & kids items checks
These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the baby & kids items page covers them in full.
Fold and unfold the pram
Do it three times. The fold catch and the secondary safety latch should click home on their own, without coaxing, and the wheels should not wobble on their axles. Push it and apply the brake on a slope; a brake that creeps is a daily hazard, not a small fault.
Read the car seat labels
Most seats carry a manufacture date moulded into the shell and a label on the base, and the plastic and webbing age from that date whether the seat has been used or not. No legible label, or an unclear accident history, means the seat should not be fitted in a car at any grade.
Work the harness and buckle
Pull the five-point webbing through its adjuster and back. It should run freely, with no fraying where it passes through the shell slots. The buckle must release with a firm press and latch with a clear click; a sticky or gritty buckle is a fail, not a clean-up job.
Shake the cot frame
Press down hard on the base and rock the frame corner to corner. It should not rack or creak. Check that every bolt is present and is the original fitting rather than something from a hardware shop, and look along the top rails for teething damage and splinters.
Lift the cover off
Take the seat pad or mattress cover off and look and smell underneath. Fabric can be washed; foam that has taken milk, urine or damp cannot be brought back, and mould spotting on the underside of a mattress means the whole piece is done.
Open the battery compartment
On toys, bouncers and ride-ons, look for green or white crust on the contacts, which means a battery has leaked and the electronics may be corroded. Check the hatch screws are present, then tug wheels, eyes and small fittings to see that nothing works loose in the hand.
