Used Interwood dining tables & chairs in Islamabad & Rawalpindi
Is a used Interwood dining tables & chair worth buying?
Interwood manufactures in Pakistan and a large part of its business is fitted kitchens and wardrobes, which shapes its dining furniture: the moving parts are cabinet hardware of the kind kitchen fitters here handle every day. That matters second-hand, because an extension runner, a sideboard hinge or a failed damper is the sort of fault that gets sorted out locally rather than ending the piece.
Made or assembled in Pakistan
Spares are widely stocked locally and most technicians in the twin cities have worked on these, so common faults are usually economic to repair.
Because Interwood manufactures here and runs showrooms in Islamabad, the hardware on its dining pieces can usually be matched by size through a kitchen-hardware importer without going near the brand. Finish is the harder half: a discontinued veneer or lacquer means a carpenter matching by eye, and that shows on any large flat surface in daylight.

Checking a used Interwood dining tables & chair
These are specific to Interwood. The general dining tables & chairs checks apply too and are on the dining tables & chairs page.
Run the extension leaf
On extending models, draw the leaf fully out and push it back several times. Binding, dropping or a leaf that needs lifting to seat means the runner set, which is specified to that model rather than sold as a generic length, and it is the most awkward thing on the table to put right.
Read the hardware stamps
Open a sideboard drawer and look at the runner and hinge for a maker's stamp. Branded cabinet hardware can be matched by size through any kitchen-hardware importer in Islamabad without involving the brand at all, whereas an unstamped fitting has to be copied by measurement.
Sight the leaf join
With the table closed, look across the join between the leaves at a low angle towards a light. Veneer and lacquer take their heaviest wear along that line, and a dark or lifted edge there means water has been sitting in the gap rather than being wiped out of it.
Lift out a seat pad
Interwood dining chairs commonly use a drop-in seat held by screws through corner blocks. Take one out: the covering is a straightforward local recovering job, so shabby fabric is not the fault it looks like, while split corner blocks or chewed screw holes are what actually matter.
Ask for the purchase record
Interwood sells through its own showrooms rather than third-party retailers, which is what makes the paperwork worth keeping. An invoice or order reference gives a carpenter or a showroom something to identify the range and finish from; without it, everything has to be matched from the piece in front of you.
What Interwood dining tables & chairs are worth
- Local manufacture and a showroom presence mean faults with a hardware answer — runners, hinges, dampers, glides — rarely push a set down a grade, because the part is a trade item rather than a spare.
- Extending tables carry both the risk and the value: a mechanism that runs true is the hardest thing on the set to restore, and the leaf join is where water damage appears first.
- Chairs are what a buyer cannot replace, so a table sold on its own gives up the most, while slip-seat covers are cheap to redo and should not be read as wear on the set.
General dining tables & chairs checks
These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the dining tables & chairs page covers them in full.
Sit on every single chair
Sit and shift your weight side to side on each one. A click or slight give where the seat rail meets the leg means the glued joint has opened. One chair is a small job; the same fault across a six-seater is the largest single cost in the set.
Test the table for wobble
Press down on each corner in turn on a level floor. A wobble that follows you around the table is uneven legs or a loose pedestal bolt. A wobble at one corner only is usually the floor, so repeat the test with the table moved a foot to one side.
Run a nail round the glass edge
Feel the whole perimeter of a glass top for chips and nicks, and look at the corners against the light. A chipped edge on toughened glass is where a break starts, and toughened glass fails all at once rather than cracking slowly.
Look along the top at an angle
Raking light shows what an overhead look hides: white heat rings, cloudy patches where hot dishes sat, and veneer lifting along the edges and joins. A solid top can be sanded and re-polished; veneer that has bubbled has nothing left to sand.
Compare the chairs to each other
Line the chairs up and compare grain, polish shade and upholstery. A chair bought later to replace a broken one almost never matches, and a set with an odd chair in it is bought as loose chairs rather than as a set.
Open and close an extension table
Slide the table open, fit the leaf and close it again. The slides should run without lifting, the alignment pins should be present and the leaf should sit flush with the main top. A missing leaf cannot be ordered separately for most tables.
