Used Black & Decker power tools & hardware in Islamabad & Rawalpindi
Is a used Black & Decker power tools & hardware worth buying?
Black & Decker sells consumer tools built around their attachments: sanders that take a base plate shaped for one model, strimmers that take one spool cap, the Workmate bench that depends on its jaw pegs. Second-hand here that is the whole question, because those moulded pieces were sold as accessories rather than through a spares counter, and the tool is worth what it still has with it.
Imported
Parts usually have to be imported or sourced from the grey market, so a repair takes longer and costs more — which matters more on an older unit than the build quality does.
The moulded consumables are the problem: base plates, pads, spool caps, guards and jaw parts came through accessory shelves rather than a spares counter, so once one is gone it is matched by measurement or not at all. Electrical faults are the easy end, since any repair shop in Rawalpindi will fit a brush, switch or cable, which is why these tools usually end on a broken housing rather than a dead motor.
Checking a used Black & Decker power tools & hardware
These are specific to Black & Decker. The general power tools & hardware checks apply too and are on the power tools & hardware page.
Check the sander plate
The detail sanders take a plate shaped for that model and pads punched to match its dust holes. Press a pad on and pull it: hooks worn smooth will not hold one, and the plate itself is matched by the tool's type code rather than bought off a shelf here.
Test the hammer ratchet
A consumer percussion drill hammers by two ratchet plates rubbing under pressure, not by a piston. Switch to hammer, press the bit hard against something solid and listen for the rattle — worn plates still drill but stop hammering, and they sit inside the gear case.
Do not assume DeWalt fits
The same group owns DeWalt, but the consumer cordless platforms are separate and the mounts differ, so a DeWalt pack will not run one of these. Older nickel-cadmium packs have no dependable local replacement, which leaves such a tool a body rather than a tool.
Work a Workmate's screws
On the folding bench, run both jaw screws through their full travel, check the jaw faces are not split around the peg holes and that the leg catches lock. The swivel pegs are what let the jaws grip an odd shape, and they are the piece that goes missing.
What Black & Decker power tools & hardware are worth
- What comes with the tool decides most of the offer, because plates, pads, spool caps and pegs are matched to one model and are not stocked here as spares.
- A drill that no longer hammers is still a drill and grades as one, since the ratchet plates sit inside the gear case and are not a part anyone sources locally.
- Corded examples outlast the cordless ones on this range, because nothing in them depends on a battery platform that has since moved on.
- A Workmate holds value in a way the powered tools do not: there is no motor, no electronics and no pack, so it is worth exactly what its screws, jaws and catches still do.

General power tools & hardware checks
These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the power tools & hardware page covers them in full.
Listen for brush sparking
Give a corded tool a minute of free running. A shower of sparks visible through the vents, with a sharp burnt-varnish smell, means the brushes are down or the commutator is scored. Brushes are a cheap consumable on common models; a burnt armature is a rewind and rarely worth doing.
Rock the spindle
Unplugged, grip the chuck or the disc flange and try to move it side to side, then in and out. Any play you can feel is worn bearings or a bent spindle. On a grinder that shows up as a disc that wobbles as it spins; on a drill, as holes that wander off line.
Work the trigger slowly
Squeeze a variable-speed trigger through its whole travel, then test forward, reverse and the lock-on. Surging, dead spots at low speed, or a motor that will only run flat out, is a worn switch module, and those are model-specific and not always available locally.
Check the cable ends
Flex the lead where it enters the body, and again at the plug. Taped repairs, hardened or cracked insulation, and a moulded plug that has been cut off and replaced are all marks of a site tool. A cable that has been shortened is common and lowers what the tool fetches.
Check it is genuine
Copies of the well-known names are everywhere in this market. A copy feels light in the hand, the moulding seams are rough, label colours and spacing are slightly off, and the rating plate is a printed sticker rather than stamped or etched. Spares made for the original will not fit a copy.
Work the battery flat
A pack showing full on its gauge proves nothing. Charge it, then drive screws or make repeated cuts until it drops out. Cells that collapse after a short burst are done. Test every pack, not one, check the charger belongs to the same platform, and look for swelling or heat marks near the contacts.
