Used Casio musical instruments in Islamabad & Rawalpindi
Is a used Casio musical instrument worth buying?
Casio arrives imported and splits by model prefix, which is the fastest thing to establish. PX, AP and CDP mean a hammer action built for piano technique; CTK, CT-S, LK and SA mean an unweighted keyboard for learning voices and styles. The two go to completely different buyers, and almost every question worth asking follows from which one is in front of you.
Imported
Parts usually have to be imported or sourced from the grey market, so a repair takes longer and costs more — which matters more on an older unit than the build quality does.
Casio instrument spares are not stocked in Islamabad or Rawalpindi. Local keyboard technicians clean the carbon contact strips, resolder sockets and substitute speakers, but hammer assemblies, keybeds and lit-key boards have to be imported, which is where most repairs stop.
Checking a used Casio musical instrument
These are specific to Casio. The general musical instruments checks apply too and are on the musical instruments page.
Read the model prefix
PX, AP and CDP are the hammer-action instruments; CTK, CT-S, LK and SA are not. Photographs flatten that difference completely, so get the number off the badge or the rear panel before travelling to see anything.
Re-strike without releasing
Casio's Tri-Sensor hammer action reads each key three times. Hold a key half up and re-strike it, then play as softly as you can across the range: notes that fail to re-sound or drop out at low velocity point to a failing sensor row rather than a dirty contact.
Look for polished keytops
Privia and Celviano keys have a textured, simulated ivory and ebony surface that wears smooth where the instrument has actually been practised. A shiny patch across the middle two octaves against matt keys at the ends tells you the hours even when the seller cannot.
Test every key light
On the LK line the lit key guide is the entire reason the instrument was bought. Run the lesson mode and watch the whole keyboard: the lamps sit under the keybed, they fail individually, and reaching them is a strip-down that costs more than these keyboards fetch.
Pedals live in stands
On Privia and Celviano consoles the three pedals are part of the stand assembly rather than a plug-in accessory. A piano top sold without its stand has no pedal at all until a separate one is found, and matching the original three-pedal unit means importing it.
What Casio musical instruments are worth
- Hammer-action models hold value better than the portables because their buyers include students working towards piano technique, and no unweighted keyboard substitutes for that.
- The lighted-key models rise or fall on whether the lights still work, since that feature is the whole reason the line is chosen over a plain portable.
- Console models depend on their stand for the pedals, so a complete console is worth more than the sum of its parts while a stranded top is worth much less.
- Nothing is stocked locally, so a fault inside the action or the keybed usually ends the instrument's commercial life regardless of how clean it looks.

General musical instruments checks
These apply whatever the badge on the front says — the musical instruments page covers them in full.
Sight down the guitar neck
Hold the guitar at eye level and look along the fretboard from the headstock. A slight forward bow is normal and adjusts out, but a twist that lifts one edge of the fretboard, or a truss rod nut that is already tight or spins without tensioning, is fingerboard work worth more than most used guitars.
Check the frets for grooves
Fret wear shows as flat spots and pits in the first five frets, where most chords are played. Light marks are fine, but deep grooves cause buzzing and dead notes, and a refret is skilled labour that outruns the value of an ordinary second-hand guitar.
Press every keyboard key
Work up the whole keyboard one note at a time, black keys included, softly and then firmly. Scattered dead notes usually mean dirty contact strips, which clean up; a block of adjacent notes failing together, or notes that sound at full volume however lightly you press, points at the main board instead.
Pump the harmonium bellows
Hold each key down while pumping steadily: every reed should speak cleanly and hold its pitch, so a wheeze, a silence, or a note that sags flat means a bent or corroded reed. Close the bellows afterwards and listen along the folds and corners for escaping air, which is a recovering job rather than a reed job.
Inspect the tabla skins
Look closely where the black syahi meets the goat skin, and at the braided rim. Hairline cracks, syahi lifting at its edge, or skin that has gone hard and shiny mean a re-skin, and the skins are the larger part of what a set is worth.
Work every control and jack
Through an amplifier or the instrument's own speakers, turn each knob slowly through its travel and flick the pickup or voice selector. Crackle that tracks the knob is a dirty potentiometer and cleans up, but a dead pickup position, or a jack that cuts out when the lead is moved, means wiring inside.
