Is a used LG led tvs & entertainment worth buying?
LG's used sets divide into two very different things. LED-backlit models are ordinary panels running webOS, while an OLED lights every pixel individually, and the check that matters differs accordingly. So does the repair story. On either type, remaining webOS app support and the presence of a paired Magic Remote decide how usable the set is day to day.
Mixed — partly assembled locally
Parts availability depends on the model line: locally assembled ranges are straightforward, imported ones less so. Worth confirming before you count on a repair.
LG runs authorised service in the twin cities and independents handle boards and backlight strips for the common LED lines. OLED is a different matter: the panel is effectively the whole set, so an OLED fault beyond the boards is not something anyone here will quote cheaply.

Show a full-field grey
On an OLED, put up plain white and then a mid-grey field and look for a faint news ticker, channel logo or game display burned into it. Image retention is the OLED-specific fault, it is permanent, and it does not show on ordinary content.
Test the Magic Remote pointer
Shake the handset and see whether the on-screen pointer appears and tracks smoothly. The pointer and scroll wheel are how webOS is meant to be driven, and replacements are tied to particular set generations.
Judge the panel off-axis
LG's IPS-type LED panels hold colour when viewed from the side but show shallower blacks and some edge glow head-on. Even glow at the corners on a dark scene is normal for the type; a bright rectangular patch is not.
Open the webOS store
Launch the app store and check that the video apps open and update rather than just appearing in a list. Older webOS versions lose apps over time, and a store several generations back may list little you would actually use.

Show a plain white screen
A full white frame exposes what ordinary content hides. Look for dim patches, a yellow or pink cast over one area, and dark vertical bands. A band running the full height of the screen is usually a failed LED backlight strip, and reaching it means opening the panel.
Then show a black frame
On black, check the four edges and corners for bright clouding and the middle for bright dots or blotches. Some even bleed at the edges is normal on cheaper panels, but a bright blotch is pressure damage inside the panel and never clears. With the set off, sighting along the glass under a torch reveals hairline cracks the picture hides.
Watch a cold start
Unplug the set, leave it a minute, then power it up and listen. One relay click followed by a normal boot is fine. Repeated clicking, a logo that appears and then restarts, or three or four attempts before it stays on, all point at the power board, commonly bulging capacitors.
Try every HDMI port
Plug a working source into each HDMI socket in turn instead of assuming one good port means the rest are fine, since a single dead port is a main-board fault and tends to spread. Check the aerial or cable tuner as well, because plenty of households here still watch through it.
Open the smart platform
Launch the app store and open the video apps. Older smart sets lose support, so apps stop updating or disappear altogether and the television becomes a plain screen that needs a stick. Confirm the remote pairs and that network settings survive a restart.
Account for remote and stand
Feet, the wall-mount bracket, the correct screws and the original remote are all model-specific. A missing foot matters more than it sounds because sets balance on a matched pair, and a universal remote will handle volume and channels but often cannot reach the smart menus.
